So - if I wanna chip my 1.8t, what parts other than chipping it are absolutely required from the start ?

NO! The stock airbox is a very good intake as is, the only time you will need to upgrade the intake is when you get to the stage 3+ point and produce over 350hp, read my review on the answers for DV's or something you will understand it a bit more and find out what you want

I chipped my 2003 recently and I agree you'll likely need a diverter valve. My stock valve went within a month of the mod. While you're at you should spend the extra $50 and throw a K&N filter if you haven't already done that.

I also swapped out the injectors for the Stage 1+ APR kit (same larger Bosch injectors that come on the TT). Along with the handy and effective throttle body calibration trick (thanks dude - it really works!) I couldn't be happier.

Course now that it goes faster I need to stop better too...

I guess brakes would be something to look at once you realize how much more performance you're getting out it.

Good question - before I did mine I looked into it. There are a lot of variables and no one company seemed to have any kind of independantly tested stats - just claims that you have to take with a grain of salt.

I went with APR because of their size and popularity and mostly because of local trustworthy representation and trouble shooting available - RPI Equiped in Richmond. APR offers multiple programs allowing you to select the appropriate program for the available fuel and type of driving you are going to do. They were also able to take care of the injectors and diverter valve so it made sense to me to work with a package. A long road trip allows you to slip it into economy mode - some 91 or 94 octane at the pump and you can select the right program to get the boost you're looking for.

Do your homework and let us know what you find out. Anyone else have any comments on this subject?

 

big 3 i would say are REVO, APR, and GIAC. GIAC apparently comes on harder so you feel it a bit more....I have APR, i like it alot, bypassed the n249 valve and it comes on harder thenthe GIAC. REVO im not to versed in but if your going with a BT or a BAT, REVO is the only one who makes a good program...from my understanding.

I really like the APR on my car though.
