Default New Member Missing his Wheels, Help!

The other night some jerks jacked up my car and stole the four wheels (with tires) right off my 2002 A4 Quattro 1.8T from my buildings underground parking lot.

I need to buy new wheels and tires now and I'm trying to get a good price...but I'm fairly ignorant about this.

I know I had old tires that were marked 235/45 R 17. So I'm pretty sure I had 17" rims.

But, I'm not entirely sure how many spokes it had. It was pretty much the standard wheel that an A4 would come with as there was no customizations and when I bought it used the whole car looked like it had been sitting in a garage for years.

Can anyone advise me on what I would be looking for and possibly even where to look? I could really use your help.

Thanks

tl;dr - does anyone know a good brand of wheel guards and a place to buy them in ontario (or a place that ships to ontario)?

The insurance goes through the company I work for and recently the boss-man had a lot of claims put through. He had his son insured whom, the other week, decided to roll/total their new SUV. Another worker got a DUI, and another person got a few speeding tickets.

So, he refuses to put this claim through. It's a lot of BS. This all happened within the last month and he never informed me.

I didn't have wheel locks on. In fact, I never even knew about them until AFTER (I've been trying to find out more about them)

I knew nothing about wheels/tires and still don't know much. But, since posting I learned that there are two types of rims, alloy and steel. My wheels were 17" and I could use 15" or 16" but I would lose traction.

My old rims new from Audi would be at least $400+tax and the tires probably $250 or so. I looked into after-market rims and some guy gave me a quote for 4 alloy rims (17") and 4 "Falcon" brand tires, including install and after taxes would work out to about $1472.

This was last night right before closing hours and he said he would call me back today and give me exact models and prices but that was his estimate. The only problem is my car is up on blocks in the underground parking for my building and this guy is about 150km north in my hometown.

I have CAA coverage and I believe they will bring my car there for 'free' (already paid for the membership) but, I'm not sure as not only is the car up on blocks but it's in a hard to get to spot in the underground parking lot and I'm not sure how they're going to pull the car out of there.

I have a mechanic friend who works on german cars (mercedes, audi, etc) and he might be willing to drive down here to install the tires (for a fee, I'm sure).

I want to deter the theft at a later date and at the moment wheel locks sound like a good idea for the price -- but I don't know which brand is worth buying. I've read a lot of them use universal keys that tire thieves walk around with and others can just be gripped by a wrench and yanked off without too much trouble. I heard there are some models that require drilling -- that would be about the most annoying thing possible (but still not impossible to steal). The only brand Canadian Tire stocks are McGards for about $30+tax. I'm not sure if I should get these or if there's a better place.

The other anti-theft choices I have (beyond getting rid of the car entirely, which I don't want to do), is to move from the end of my underground parking lot to a more populated area so that if someone does try to steal it again there is more chance someone will see it.

I guess what pisses me off the most, beside that insurance thing, is that I just found out that the cameras in my building....are live feed only. Unbelievable.

Anyway sorry for the long post. I'm still working on this.

LMFAO

I'm sorry but this is freaking funny. I know this is not that funny to you probaly but i'm still laughing and to be honest you can't tell me you were not laughing abit. I live in teh same situation as yourself with a underground parking garage and if that happened to me I think i would have turned around and went back to bed saying " this is not a good day, I'm going back to bed"

On the not so funny side of things I hope everything turns out good for you

Good luck

I'm not sure I understand why you have to pay for what is an insured coverage. Who owns the car and why is insurance placed through employer's business? Your insurer should pay for OEM all around without question.

I'd also move. Thieves LOVE u/g garages.

Who is the "they" who are you insured with? Insurance company? broker? If reported to insurers and loss is above deductible, insurers have no choice but to cover loss. If theft deductible is $1000 let's say, then it may not make sense to file a $400 claim if you can replace it all for $1400. I'm thinking OEM Audi wheels are more like $500 - $1000 each wheel. Mine are $900 each. Add 4 aveage tires and you're looking at $2600+ for a set of wheels and tires.

Perhaps we both have just accepted that type of crap happens to us.

Welcome to the site Aro2220, hopefully insurance will sort it out for you. No security in the underground lot?

Have you considered getting an aftermarket alarm system ? you can set the sensetivity and you get a digital remote with it, well it depends on the type you get. I know my audi has stock alarm im not sure about yours but im planning on getting an aftermarket one with a 2 way remote that will display if the car is being broken into or what not. It cost around 400 bucks plus install but saves you alot in the long run. There is alt of choices to choose form i suggest you should look into it because there is aways a chance of that person coming back
