Default 2nd Audi after 25 years and loving the drive

Hey folks, had an Auid Fox out of college and really enjoyed that car but wife and family took me onto another automobile path. Got rid of the wife recently so bought another Audi A4 after driving the Nurburgring with my son last summer while he is stationed there for the military. Wow have i missed the performance and fun to drive for all those years.

I do have a question on timing belt replacement which I plan to do soon but i have a choice of using a fairly good dealership or save money using a passionate backyard mechanic. What to do new friends? And if I use the backyard mechanic, is there a timing belt kit to purchase and I have read to replace the water pump and tensioner also?

thanks for any help

Welcome!
There are many parts places online- I like ecstuning.com
they have complete timing belt kits.

I would like to welcome you!

Just like an old friend of mine once said "wenn wir was fahrn, dann fahrn wir was g'scheids". Translation: "if we drive something, we drive the rite something (Audi)". Congrats on the wonderful car you have in your possession.

How was the Nurburgring? I was too young to drive when I lived in Germany. The Nurburgring, just like Pikes Peak and Salt Lake Flats, is a goal in my life to race across with an Audi, perhaps even my own.

Welcome back to Audi and welcome to the Forum. As for the timing belt change I understand that the water pump should be done at the same time. If you have confidence in you "backyard" mechanic than go for it and save some money but know that there likely is no recourse if something goes wrong.

If the opportunity ever arises for you, go and drive the "ring". The quantity of quality autos there impressed me greatly. It was a first hand experience of Formula One racing and further confirms my distast for the American "turn left" race venue. Also I recommend driving the Ring immedaitely after your flight arrives in Frankfurt as this is a wonderful technique to ovecome jet lag. cheers.
