Thanks everyone, now I'm broke.

We were in need of a larger (it's a jungle out there), more capable (they don't plow our street until noon, if at all) commuter for the 190km round-trip my wife does on the 401 every day. Her 2009 Jetta TDI has paid its dues and is now destined to replace my 2007 Mazda 3 Sport GT.

After a few months of research, including countless hours trolling and lurking on forums like this one, we today put down our deposit on a factory-order Daytona Grey one with the adaptive cruise control and the B&O stereo. We test drove a 2013 Touareg TDI but it wasn't comfortable for us sedan drivers.

A bit about us: My wife's a nurse and works in public health keeping all the contagious nasties under control in the region of Peel. I'm a computer engineer working in the security group at one of Canada's largest high tech companies (and one of the world's largest data communications networks) keeping your confidential, personal and financial information safe and secure. We don't have a habit of buying luxury goods, but have pretty high expectations when it comes to consumer products, materials, quality and service (especially ones we expect to live with for 8 years or so).

So we're not exactly badge people. But we've decided to "step up" this time. That's if I can make it through the 3 months of anxious second-guessing while they manufacture, tune and ship what I hope to be the car of our dreams.
