EXACTLY! The OP is here for a bit of help and input. We have to remember that not everyone out there (or here rather) has had the experience of owning or driving an Audi, quattro or FWD. Heck, I've only been driving them for 2 1/2 years myself!

Another point I just thought about is resale. There's not too many buyers out there looking for a FWD Audi. Quattro is a big selling feature. That can be advantageous in getting a great deal on a FWD car, but might come back to haunt you when you want to sell it.

Well welcome to the website, however you need to understand also that we are here to help. I am not trying to be rude or anything but just saying if every "newbie" comes on here and asks the same question we would not really be very much help if the forum is filled with the same questions. I hope you see my point and use the search button first next time. I hope you dont take this personaly and dont think I am bashing or insulting you but you also need to see our standpoint.

I think 1move's point is that the topic has been dealt with in this forum...no harm asking a question but check to see if it's already been answered!

I'm surprised nobody's pointing out how superior Quattro is in good weather.

You may be interested to know that in 1996 - when Audi won 7 out of 7 championships - Quattro was banned in any touring or super-touring competition. It is just that superior to FWD & RWD (and for that matter, other AWD systems) in good conditions.

Of course it goes without saying how amazed I am at how my TT Roadster handles the snow and ice.

Here's an example - it's not an Audi, rather a Legacy GT wagon (my other ride!) with some interesting results. Listen to the comments - hilarious

Search on Youtube for Painesville parking lot drags 2 (sorry I don't have the prerequisite 5 posts yet to post the URL )

gurr8,

Sorry buddy, but I have to disagree. When it comes to road racing, RWD is the best for all dry weather racing. You can throttle steer a RWD car and RWD has less drive train HP loss. Also, just look at Forumla 1 all of the cars are RWD and Audi's own *** kicking LeMans R10 is RWD.

Don't get me wrong. I love my quattro, but when it comes to racing I'd rather drive my M3.

As PwrDriftr said, RWD is superior to AWD unless traction is an issue, i.e., on dirt or snow.

While I definitely prefer AWD, I would say that it does not make much difference to your average person. The difference between higher-end and lower-end tires is greater than the difference between AWD and FWD; a FWD with studded Winters will easily outperform an AWD with All-Seasons.

Whereas a Quattro with winter tires will easily drive away. All it has to do is save you from one accident and it has more than paid for itself.

**(i'm new to this forum - but you seem like a expert, so i thought i'd ask

live in snow country in Utah and just got a 2009 Audi A3. for $$ reasons, i could only afford FWD, but i'm a seasoned Winter driver + looking at Blizzak WS-60's.

it's my 1st winter without AWD + sorta nervous......but thinking i'll be fine.

(used to have A4 quattro + VW 4motion Tiguan WITHOUT snow tires........so my thought process is a FWD WITH killer snow tires = i should be good!)

thoughts?
thank you!

Driving w FWD in snow w winter tires is great. You will be fine until you have to have to stop on a slippery uphill section, then you will probably have trouble getting started. Good driving and planning ahead will solve the problem, never stop going uphill, plan ahead!!! Perfection is acceptable. Blizzacks are great tires.
Good Luck

Could you elaborate please. I checked locally here (vancouver) and am not finding any great deals at all. Thanks
