Having switched from a FWD A4 to a Quattro A4 and now a Quattro TT, I can attest to the value of the AWD models. Not only in the snow, but also in wet conditions and even sometimes in the dry. Upon vigorous acceleration the FWD models can't get the power down and will spin the front tires, especially in the rain.
BUT, I also never got stuck in the snow with my FWD A4 and 4 snow tires. But the added traction and security of the Quattro is worth a lot to me.

I'd like to hit a road course track day in the fall perhaps. I do want to get my timing belt done first though, plan is in September.

Back to the question.
If you ever have to stop on an uphill section of snowy road (which is, of course, to be avoided at all costs) a FWD even with the world's best snow tires will have difficulty in getting going again. Whereas a Quattro with winter tires will easily drive away. All it has to do is save you from one accident and it has more than paid for itself.

I know that probably it has been covered a hundred of times but I am new at this forum and I never had an audi nor a tt. You have to think about the new guys in the game. You know about it, not me
