What to buy fwd or quatro
I am looking at buying in september a new 2010 tt and wondering which one I should buy. I was told by a friend who had a 2008 tt 2.0 fwd for two years soon, that he can get through every snow situation, except real big storm.
I had some scary experiences in deep snow with my ex car , a Crossfire coupe, which was RWD.
I was thinking going to quatro, but this friend of mine told me that the tt with fwd is enough with good winter tires to go through almost any situations.
I would like to have anyone toughts on the sunject.

Re: What to buy fwd or quatro
Quattro really only comes in handy if you drive through heavy snow. I live in Mississauga and I have an Audi Quattro (with snow tires) and my wife drives a FWD Saab 9-3 (with snow tires). The Audi is better in the snow, but at the same time, the Saab has never gotten stuck.
I got the Quattro because I hate the torque steer that comes with FWD cars. Also, Quattro burns more gas than the FWD model will. I hope that was enough useless info for ya.

If you are looking at buying a 2010 TT, you won't have the option of FWD in Canada. (Not that you would want it anyhow.)
You will have your choice of either a TT 2.0T or a TTS (also 2.0T) as a coupe or roadster. Both options will be quattro AWD with an S Tronic (DSG) transmission. FWD, the 3.2 V6 engine and the six speed manual transmission were all deleted for 2010.
If you have your heart set on FWD there are some great deals out there on 2009 models that nobody wants.

If you go to Audi Canada, it says it is. I am not sure since when I went to the dealer, I asked for a quote on a quatro.
What I am wondering is if the fwd will do the job in the snow and I want to hear from all of you owners of fwd tt, preferably recent models 2008,2009

Re: What to buy fwd or quatro
audi.ca is still showing 2009 models, not 2010 models. (Unfortunately so is audiusa.com.) Pricing on the US 2010 TT models has been posted on a few different forums and there is no FWD model listed.

Re: What to buy fwd or quatro
Having switched from a FWD A4 to a Quattro A4 and now a Quattro TT, I can attest to the value of the AWD models. Not only in the snow, but also in wet conditions and even sometimes in the dry. Upon vigorous acceleration the FWD models can't get the power down and will spin the front tires, especially in the rain.
BUT, I also never got stuck in the snow with my FWD A4 and 4 snow tires. But the added traction and security of the Quattro is worth a lot to me.

One other point: In A recent Supercars Exposed they pitted 2 tweaked-up AWD Porsches against a stack or other supercars, Viper, Ferarri, Lambo, etc. The AWD Porsches dominated because they could get the power down to the street.
