2012 Audi TT RS brakes

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
Just joined this forum, yours was the first post I read, and I just said "UGH!" Why, because I bought a TTRS 5 days ago and have been treated to endless screeching brake sounds and glares from alarmed people. How can brakes on a new car screech so loudly. Perhaps its a manufacturing ploy to bring attention to the car!?! Anyways, misery loves company, and I'm pleased to see some constructive suggestions.
I did try seeding the brakes a few times with high speed braking and screeching went away. But then it returned next day; did same thing, and it returned next day again. Trail braking down steep hills doesn't do anything. Now I'm thinking a half dozen fast runs/braking might do the trick.
Called the dealer and they are researching the problem before taking my time to come in for "drive with a service agent".

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
Did the 60mph to 10mph heavy braking runs 10X in a row, as recommended, and the noise went away for that day. Next day it came back, some more heavy braking, went away. Next day it came back, as loud as ever. I'm at 250 miles now.
Talked to the lead tech specialist at my Audi dealer, he contacted HQ in Germany, and they said they are aware of, and working on the problem. I'll be notified if/when a fix is found.
My take thus far:
1) It's a pest, like a pebble in your shoe on a long walk. Screeching happens when coming to a stop, like at traffic lights. Becomes a preoccupation because the driver doesn't have a lot to focus on during the car's 1000 mile break in period, except niggly things like this.
2) It's embarrassing for the driver and Audi. I belong to an exotic car club, by virtue of owning a Ferrari 458 Italia, and you can image their reaction when the new new kid on the block shows up -- the screeching Audi TT RS.
3) The fact the screeching comes back after trying to seed the brakes makes me think something may be suboptimal or malfunctioning in the calipers. I suspect the rear calipers are the culprit. As I track my cars, and the TT RS is registered for a track event on June 19, I don't like to feel vulnerable to possible mechanical flaws.
4) Audi would be smart to act on this issue asap. Blemishes, even if they turn out not to be deep ones, can turn clients away.

I have installed Carbotech 1521's, bedded them and no problems. The issue seems to be the hard OEM pads and they're noisy. So far no squealing.

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
This is common on high performance breaks, there is nothing that can be done about it. In the dealer there is a pamphlet on this. It happens to my S4 as well. It happens a lot between minus 5 and plus 5 as it gets hotter it goes away. It's just the composition of the breaks. There are very expensive after-market pads that claim to deal with this issue but I personally have no experience with those.

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
I had a little chirp out of mine yesterday and I'm certain its because I havent had much of an opportunity to heat 'em up recently. The past week or so, I've been driving short trips and been stuck in traffic ... this was the first time I've heard any brake sound and I'm at 32,xxxk
Here's the fix: Drive it like you stole it all the time

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
I just picked up a TTRS 5 days ago, and the noise from the brakes is crazy. My car is in the dealership now for this issue, and the tech is going to inspect and clean the break. Did anyone of you contact Audi Canada for this issue? Did the dealership replace the pads or make any adjustments to the braking system?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
Just want to tell you that I have the same problem....with new pads. The bug things is I really don't know if the dealer where I bought the car last year (it's an 2008 at 90k by the way) put OEM pads or other. I tried what all of you said here with no result.

Re: 2012 Audi TT RS brakes
Thanks, the SA told me that each country has its own recall policy and Audi Canada does not have any recall on the TT RS break. From what I heard from my friend who is a tech in Mercedes Benz, all fixed brake with high performance pad will have this issue. Mercedes has similar issues on the AMG models. But the HQ sent couple engineers from Germany to review the issue in Canada, and is trying to come have a fix on the noise.
I just received the Audi Survey on the purchasing experience, and will express this issue in the comment section. I hope it will help. My RS sounds like a TTC bus when it comes to a red light, very frustrating.
