Default AWD / FWD differences

Almost embarrassed to ask this one…

Beyond the obvious things (ie badging), and short of crawling under the car, what visual clues do the AWD TT’s have over the FWD cars?

At the local Audi dealership this morning, I learned that single exhaust tipped cars are not all wheel drive? Is this true? ‘Cuz I see all kinds of for sale ads showing “quattros” with a single exhaust outlet. Or, did that maybe change over the years?

Thanks!

The exhaust did change over the years. Although most single outlet exhausts are a sign of the 180HP FWD cars though. There is also as you have stated, the obvious. Unless they have been removed, the AWD cars have a Quattro badge on the front and rear as you can see in the pics below.

I think for the most part a lot of people just associate the word "Quattro" with Audi and often mistakenly use it. They don't realize that it specifically denotes an AWD car.

The BEST way to find out is to get the VIN number and have it checked with a dealer.

i also think the 5spd is a sign of FWD...Although you can get a 180hp AWD i the U.S. its the same car....but the Turbo is a KO3 (KO3 is on the jetta) and the 225hp is a KO4....KO4 being way better, with only a few bucks you can make it have over 260hp (CPU flash)
