Default 01 TT Purchase Advice

Hi Folks,

I may have found a viable 01 TT buy and need your input please:

2001 TT with service records:
- recent timing belt and water pump, idlers, etc at dealer
- Verifiable Haldex servicing (within the last 14 K) - dealer
- Strut mounts and bushings done within the past month - dealer
- recent tires with bill of sale - included alignment with results
- no accidents
- Flawless body, no rust
- Great interior - no (salt) stains, rips, parts missing, etc
- Two owner car with original bill of sale
- Currently just under 100,000 km
- Selling uncertified /not etested - at present
- Recent e-test this year for plates
- No obvious gremlins at first glance - Cold AC, Gauge cluster good, windows, locks, hatch release, radio, disc changer all normal, etc.

What would be a fair offer on something like this with records and in great shape?

Will be following up with an import experts review before money changes hands.

Yes things will go wrong. No, nothing catastrophic. Will not be a daily driver. A driving machine for fair weather. Your thoughts?

Thanks everyone.

Hi Bruce. I am in the same boat as yourself, but I am looking at TT's from the US, to import into Manitoba.

I saw a few 2000-2002 Audi TT's in the southern Ontario area on the AutoTrader.ca website, and they seem to range in the $10K - $14K range. The one you are looking at seems to have VERY low mileage at less than 100 KM. Having the Timing Belt, etc done recently by a dealer is worth about $1500, and sounds just about right, based on 100KM.

If you are buying from a private owner, then about $11-$12K would be a good deal for the 180HP version, but an excellent deal for the 225 HP. A used car dealer will add $2K on top, and a new car dealer will add another $2K again at least (plus extra taxes).

Crawl underneath the car and check for corrosion. If the salt in Southern Ontario hasn't killed it so far, you should be good to go.

Best of luck.
Michael.

Thanks Michael. I made tentative arrangements today for a Pre safety check followed by an in depth look at the car by a local Audi specialist. He estimated about an hour for the safety and roughly 2-3 hours after that for the rest (OBDII scan, suspension, frame, drive line, body, Haldex, engine performance, electricals, emission, etc, etc).
I'm now waiting on the owners buy in to have it inspected considerate of the fact they are selling it uncertified. I don't have a problem with spending $300-400 before I spend 12 Large (?) on this one. And if not - I walk - even though I don't want to.

And yes it is a 225 hp 1.8T .

Hi there,

I paid 8k for my 2001 Audi TT 225.

However it had a 170k on it.

I of course had to err enhance it...

So $500.00 clear bra.

H&R spacers for wheels $300.00

New 42 draft design 3" turbo back exhaust $1500.00

New Frankenturbo $1000.00 (way more HP than stock turbo)

New tune from Unitronics $700.00

New CV boot, Front end suspension creak(parts), Haldex precharge pump, ESP sensor, ABS sensor say $1500.00 for all of these bits.

So all said and done for it $13,500.00.

Now its fun!

It can pick your pocket though

Randy.
