There isn't a limit except for the fact that every wrong try increases the lockout time (if you enter the wrong pincode more than once or twice you have to leave the ignition on for a period of time - displayed in one of the measuring blocks)

Interesting - can you post the link to the ebay vendor or PM it to me?

Shop eBay Canada Store - THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY STORE:: Parts Accessories, Car Electronics is the store where I purchased mine. Gotta make sure the numbers are matching to the one you already have from all that I have read though.

Thanks for the post. Just bought a used Avant with two key fobs that didn't work remotely. Followed the instructions and both are functioning as they should. I can't help but think that the PO was probably pissed off every time he had to open the car by putting the key into the door when he had these key fob's that didn't work...especially when the fix was pretty simple.

Okay I need to replace the battery for my key (switchblade) and I'm wondering if I need to reprogram my key? If I need to reprogram, do I need to reprogram both keys? I'm asking because I've read that a few people are having issues with one of the keys not working. Another question is, is the battery I need a lithium CR2032? 5 pc SONY CR2032 CR 2032 3v Lithium Battery NEW Exp2019 on eBay.ca (item 250499808432 end time 09-May-11 15:08:14 EDT)

I drive a 2004 A4 1.8TQ and the key looks like this

the CR2032 is the right battery. If it's opened for more than a min or so it will require re-synching but not reprogramming. Turn the key on in the ignition and when it is on push the lock or unlock button. Remove the key and try it - should work (unlock only if the door is open, the lock button may not work)

Okay so If I take longer than a minute to replace my battery I need to re-sync my key? To resync the key I need to take the key with the new battery and stick it into the ignition and turn it once notch forward (and not start my engine?), push either lock or unlock on the key, turn ignition off, take key out and try the buttons? What do you mean by "unlock only if the door is open, the lock button may not work"? Do you mean that I need to leave my door open when testing out the buttons?

God damn eBay!!! I guess I was due to be burned.

I bought one on these keys for $40 and had it cut for another $40 and then took it to the dealer to have it programmed. The dealer determined that the remote could not be programmed making it effectively worthless.

I am seriously curious about this, as I had the exact same issue. Now realistically what are the chances that we both got bad key fobs? Hmmmm. Gotta find someone with a vagcom who can figure out the pin code and see ifmthey can do anything.

This worked for me on second time of trying with my 99 A4 using just the valet key in the ignition.

Thanks... saved me $$$
