Finally got my keys coded to my immo! Local guy with the equipment sorted it out with me. I finally have three sets running. That took ages for me to research and only took him about 10 minutes. I already my keys cut and doors programmed. I just needed the immo working.

He can cut and code keys for most of our cars. He was saying that some can be problematic but it worked for my '04 AR. He's in the GTA so you need to be able to meet him in person so he can retrieve and generate your pin code. Good riddance stealerships!
My guess is you have the keys after the code of the imo. In case you have your key lost you'd wish to have a new code to prevent unauthorised usage of the old key.
A new cod e could be obtained by the dealers only?

Close and lock the drivers door with the second key with the window down (you can also do this from the inside of your car).

On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only, the lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked

With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.

Pull the key from the slot and also take out the key out of your ignition and than test the remote functions.

Repeat for second key fob / switchblade / key whatever you want to call it !!! Enjoy!! This worked on my 04 a4 1.8t !!

You might end up doing it a few times to get the hang of the procedure so its all a smooth one step type of thing and the comp will learn it! NOTICE if you are too slow / too fast this will not work!!
My 2006 A6 keys sometimes work and sometimes don't. I know the batteries are ok- will this routine solve my problem or is something else going on? Thanks for any help

Remote malfunctioning or imo?
Which part of the key functions is failing?
(Door opening or ignition)

Remote malfunctioning or imo?

Not sure what "imo" is but assume it is some kind of remote module-think it must be this part because both switchblade keys sometimes work and sometimes don't-sometimes I will get the flashing red light on the keys when I am close to the vehicle and other times, nothing-

Which part of the key functions is failing?
(Door opening or ignition)[/QUOTE]

None of the key functions work when remote is not working-when I am able to start the car without inserting the key in the ignition, I sometimes get the error message "key not in vehicle"- Hope this is making some sense to you

imo usually refers to "in my opinion" but if you opinion is busted, I can give you a new one

In this case, imo is short for immobilizer. It is a separate system from the key fob and prevents the car from starting if a chip is not present.

You can start the car without inserting the key in the ignition!?

Hi all, signed up yesterday to read this thread as you all sounded pretty up to speed - now I need some help! Had both keys get out of sync with the car and had to lock it last night manually. Was going to try and re-sync the keys as you've suggested on here tonight.

Then this morning when I unlocked it, I put the key in the ignition to try and start it and nothing. All the dials came on as per normal, I turned the ignition and all I got was a click. Then when returning the key to the on position, I noticed that all of the dials had reset, as had the radio.

What the hell caused that?

I sit anything to do with the immobiliser and the key problem or do you think it is seperate? I didn't have chance to try the other key because I needed to get a train to work, but when I left the car I could suddenly use the remote central locking again. Help please! I don't want to have to get the dealer to pick my car up!

Sounds like a battery issue, get a voltmeter and check the voltage on your battery.
