Worried About Security

Re: Worried About Security
Whenever I am at the store, I park far away in hopes that nobody will park next to me. Unfortunately, one of my cars seems to be a magnet for terrible parkers. I have a car that my family refers to as "junky" that I don't really care too much about door dings, etc. so I will park that closer than the other.

Re: Worried About Security
My biggest fear though with parking lots is that there will be a stray shopping cart that will be blown across the parking lot and smash into my beauty. Shops all seem to have liability disclaimers, and I never really understood how they can do that-I mean someone is responsible right?

Re: Worried About Security
I have seen so many people launching carts across the parking lot, and it really scares the heck out of me. The day that my baby gets hit by a shopping cart is the day that I never go grocery shopping again.

I've never seen someone doing it deliberately-is that what you are saying? Wow, that's just shocking. I wonder if there is anything that can be done in that situation to make these kind of people responsible.

Re: Worried About Security
I don't know if they are necessarily trying to hit cars with the baskets, but I have heard kids yelling things like "Let's see how far I can make it go!" and then they push it, only to run away when they see it about to hit a car.

Re: Worried About Security
I agree that it won't influence people unfortunately. As nice a thought at that is, too many people are just too idle to take back their cart. And even worse is the kids who turn it into a game, because for them the only thing that will really help is the store people coming and taking the carts back into the store.

Alarm with a 2 way remote. Alarm goes off, remote chirps and beeps.
But i practise the following:
Never leave money or valuables in the car or ANYTHING viewable that a person may want, including a homeless guy smashing the window for a winter jacket.
All my stereos are stealth.
The club is useless, but coupled with a car alarm is one extra level of security. Mind you,i think most criminals scoff at the club. I mean, its only going to slow them down seconds.
Also, lock nuts on rims / tires.
Manual starter kill
Fuel kill switch.
I mean, you can go pretty nuts protecting your ride. But at the end of the day the crooks can just tow your car.

What's a manual starter kill and what's a fuel kill?
And Where do I get them?

Re: Worried About Security
Manual starter kill: Wire in a switch right before the starter solenoid. You need to switch it on before you start the car or the starter will not get the signal. I believe this only works on automatics as you can simply bump start a manual.
Fuel pump kill: Same as above but for the fuel pump, probably more effective on manual tranny's.
My favourite - Get a wheel boot Parking Enforcement Devices - Wheel boots, and Vehcile Immobilization PitBull Tire Lock
A boot is good when you don't mind using it everytime you leave your car, and have come to terms with your insane obsession with your car!
