We use a tablet (Google Nexus 10) tethered to a Wi-Fi hotspot (my Google Android phone) and it works beautifully throughout North America using Google maps with the traffic layer overlaid. The amount of data used is reasonable.

Any similar combination of tablet and phone should easily outperform the Audi antiquated map database and the lack of traffic information in Canada.

It's been a year now that I have been driving my Q7. Love everything about it except for the GPS. As a matter of fact I stopped using shortly after I bought it. The last time I used it, it was in Mississauga Ontario. The GPS took me in the wrong direction on the street by 1km (probably in a 40 year old street if not older). I pull out my phone to get me there and since have not used the GPS once.

Now have a TOM TOM GPS and it works well -

Has anyone tried the MyAudi site for Map updates (URL below) ? I registered and checked - Map Update Service is listed as part of Audi Connect (?) but I could not find the option to actually download the latest map. Supposedly, you can download to a SD card and update directly from the MMI unit in the car.

Not sure if it is model / year specific so interested to know if any one else can do it. Mine is 2013 A4

I didn't know about My Audi. I just registered my 2009 Q7 and after doing so there is nothing to download. Just a few details about my Q7 like model and the serial number. No details at all. Maybe it is new

I just install a 7" tablet which I used for the GPS now. I'm using https://www.sygic.com/en on the tablet. Work very well for the most part

According to the short manual on the MyAudi site, it appears that the map update only works for the A3 for model year 2014. Too bad ...

Does your 2013 A4 still come with the dial **** GPS or do they already come with a touch screen?

That was the thing that disappointed me the most about my Q7. I figured that for an Audi you would already have with touch screen.

The VW Jetta's and Passat's already come with better equipped instrumental dashboards then Audi's. Well have not seen 2011 and up for Audi's.

As far as I am aware, up to this point, all Audi MMI systems are **** controlled. Some newer models have touch pad / **** with handwriting recognition but no touch screen. Could be wrong though...

Yeh I was looking at some pictures for 2011-2014 of Audi's the other day and they all still have the *****.

I suppose that it would require a lot of R&D to make the change to touch screen but for a high-end vehicle that should be a no brainer. Maybe none of the other manufactures don't have touch screens either so there is no incentives for Audi to do that.

I actually do not mind the **** setup. I had a 2005 Acura TSX before which had a touch screen nav system and it needed constant wiping from all the finger marks.
