S8 vs A8L
What do you guys think?
2001 AUDI S8 QUATTRO vs 2004 Audi A8L ?
I have been looking at the A8Ls and the guy i have been dealing with has told me a few times to pick up an S8 2001 he can get me.
The S8 is fully loaded 70,000 km and is around $24,000.
The A8L which i find has the sexier body style is around $34,000.
What are your thoughts ? He keeps saying the S8 is very original and there arent many in Ontario and are unique and that he himself would take the S8 over the A8L.
Anyhow, some opinions would be appreciated.
I enclose a picture of the S8 he has and a picture i found on Google of an A8L (for those that dont know what it looks like. The A8L i originally was looking at was Black on Black.

Re: S8 vs A8L
Honestly it all depends on you and your financial situation/how good you are with cars.
The S8 may be a more fun car if you're into the older bodystyle/S series cars. It has that classic look that could be set off with the right wheel and tire combo as well as a few other mods.
Problems are more maintenance since it is older and S series. If you can do most of the maintenance yourself then it may be worthwhile.
The A8L is a newer bodystyle which you say you like so it scores points there but then again the cost factor comes in. It costs more but you may save on maintenance in the short term.
It is almost too close to call, what are the service histories on each of the cars?

Re: S8 vs A8L
Its newer, looks better, the S will make the insurance companies drool. For me buying a big car it has to be classy, and not hyper. I beleive there isnt even much difference in power between the 2 anyway. Ive always felt the S8s were a waste when you consider the S4 is just so much more of what an S car should be. The S6/S8 to me are just A6/A8s with badges. The performance against the competition in their own class is mediocre compared with the S4 in its class. I dont want to say they are really bad, but they certainly fall short given their price tags. The A8L though is a class leader. It drives absolutely great, and I would be driving one if it werent so big. They are a bastard if you have to park them in crowded parking lots.............
