S4 questions
I think I have offically decided to sell both cars and by a 2006 or 2007 S4. I've had the corrado for over 6 years and only enjoy it in the summer for only about 2000 kms of driving, and I'd like a newer car with more "bells and whistles" than my A4.
Plus I have issues with parking, storage and I can only have a light weight passenger in my corrado otherwise i rub the tires like crazy
Considering the S4 is an 8 cylinder which I've never owned, is there any concerns about mileage or leaks or ??? I'm not too sure what problems S4's are known for and of course every car I've seen is squeaky clean and hard to see anything under the hood.

Re: S4 questions
S4's are fine and they do leak oil from the Cam seals if the PCV venting issues were never addressed. Intake change over flaps have known to seize but not that common. Oil and fuel is a huge factor in that model and other Audi engines. Quality oils like ELF or high quality synthetic blends is the way to go. Fuel issues arise when people purchase fuel with ethanol. Those engines were never designed to run on that blend. Depending on the year, FSI engines do not like ethanol or cheap oil.
That's where the drivability issues begin. The ME7.x engine management system tolerated it, but the MED9.x engine management system will complain.
The V8's eat gasoline, get used to it.
Driveline, suspensions and body are generally very good as long as the maintenance schedule is followed to some degree.

Re: S4 questions
Thanks for the information.
Can you expand on "PCV venting issues", was this a recall or just a recommended fix?
I've always changed all fluids and filters upon buying a new used vehicle, so I intent to do the same in this case. I'm currently running my 2001 A4 with Motul Synthetic and an extra large oil filter to increase engine oil capacity (I read many recommendations of this when I just bought the car)
Sounds like I should have too many problems as the car won't have too many kms already driven, hopefully no damage will be done.
V8 is not a problem as I only have a 9km drive to work and I look forward to the 6-speed as I always tend to want to shift again when in 5th on the highway.

Re: S4 questions
Under the right conditions (a grocery getter) and there's enough condensation in the PCV and cam cover vent lines, it would freeze and allow for no crank case venting on the next cold startup. There never was a recall, if the seals were pushed out or other gaskets leaking, there was an updated venting system added to the repair. Noticeable was a different corrugation tube and extra insulation on the vent adapter on the V6 and V8 engines, the 1.8T's were another headache on to them selves.

She's talking about a B7 S4, which has a 4.2 V8, but is not FSI
anyway, +1 for the AVOID ETHANOL! From Audis to lawnmowers, that **** is poison.
the biggest problem the B7 has is fuel efficiency...of course if you're driving a 4000 pound car with a 344hp 4.2L V8, expecting anything but poor mileage is wishful thinking.
I have a 2007 MT6 and get about 425km for every 60L of fuel. This works out to about 17mpg or 14 l/100km. That's almost all local driving...very little highway.

Re: S4 questions
The S4 is a fantastic car, when it works. I own one, but some of the 4.2 engines have high oil consumption issues. My S4 uses a litre of oil every thousand kilometres or so and Audi does not stand behind there warranty. Have a look at my battle with Audi to stand behind there product.

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't buy another Audi. I bought the car after I drove it and fell in love with everything about it, but when your car needs a new engine and Audi Corporate tells you to pound sand and your issues have been clearly documented from the beginning....
