Cool radar detectors: stealth installations

Anybody have any recent experience purchasing, installing and using a radar detector? Yes, I know it's contrary to the HTA...(so too is driving 110 KM per hour on the 400). Therefore all comments will be deemed to be hypothetical in nature. I am considering a trip south of the border for this purpose.

I moved to Alberta 1 year ago and I was surprised to see radar detectors on sale at bestbuy. They are legal here
I am considering the purchase as we speak

Negatory. They are illegal here and carry a pretty hefty fine if memory serves correctly. That doesn't stop some people but alas nobody I know.

When looking to purchace a Radar Detector, keep in mind that Radar Detector users may get caught by police carrying a new, advanced device that detects your Radar Detector referred to as a Radar Detector Detector.

Which is puzzling to me because I though that Radar Detectors only receive laser light or radar waves, not transmitt.

Anyway, do your homework and get the right one.

Dont forget about the Detectors that detect Detectors and the Detectors that detect those!

I always wondered how you detect something that simply "listens"? Maybe the "Detector" is the cop watching the guy hit his brakes a mile down. I read a post on another forum ( I'd quote but i forget where it was) The guy said if you get pulled over with one, put it in your pocket because the cop can search you car but not you. Another Idea was to seal it into a package with someone elses name on it with a few stamps. He'd need a warrant to open mail thats not addressed to you.

The radar detector detector picks up on the frequency tuned oscillator of your detector. A cheap radar detector is typically not internally well shielded and a good radar detector can actually be false triggered by a cheap detector RF leaks.

Valentine1 is highly rated:

Lmao i'd like to try packaging a detector into an envelope while a cop was pulling me over without getting shot :P

Yes: Do not use it!

I have a "PASSPORT" from Cincinaty Microwaves and I use it when I travel outside Ontario! The law is clear: Ownership OK! Use: NO!

Thing is that with the new Speed Measuring Devices used - LASER based - by the "law", the moment the detector activates, is when you got cought!!!
