I bought a set of 1-season-used Toyo Garrit HT's and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do. No noticeable wear on them yet. I like them because they still have an "H" speed rating, unlike the blizzaks I had with a "Q" rating. I'll let you know how they are when the snow flies.
For now, I have noticed some slip in hard corners on wet pavement.

The Dunplor winter sport is a "performance" winter tire. This means that it is not the best ice and snow tires, but it holds the pavement almost as good as summer tires. I live in the north end of the GTA and 90% of my driving is on pavement - one morning a week at most is snow covered. These tires are still very capable in the winter. You'd likely be splitting hairs deciding which tire is better in deep snow, ice, etc... Most winter tires are very squirmy and unpredictable on wet and dry pavement, the dunlops are very linear and rock solid. I am now starting my 3rd season on these tires- 2 of them have no measurable wear, the other 2 are starting to show some signs- still a few more winters left.

So, far only driving on bare pavement, but they are rock solid !!

I have used Dunlop 3D Wintersports on two a4's and now my A6. They have been fantastic in all of our west coast winter weather, including last years epic and unplowed snow. In all cases I have purchased from US vendors, including tirerack and had them shipped to Point Roberts. The savings have varied from $300.00 to $500.00 a set.
Whatever you use, get the best tire you can afford, and stick to the major's, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear. From experience Falkens can be a good performing and reasonable product, but last about as long as your next tank of gas.

I'm running Dunlop winter sport this winter - so far so good but we've had very little snow so far. I've heard great things about Nokian WR. Blizzaks, Hancooks & Continental all have good reputations.
For the last 4 winters I kept the all seasons on all winter and really had no problems. I found the all seasons on my 04 with traction control worked as well as winter tires on my 00 without traction control.

Whistler has had a record amount of snow this month (over 500 cm), the snow has been bottomless, challenging and very rewarding. I have driven up several times to catch some stunning skiing and have been caught in complete blizzards. The Dunlop Winter Sports have allowed me drive in a spirited, but safe, manner in the dry and wet on the Sea to Sky Highway (which is great after the $700 million up-grade, and now complete). And they have provided terrific traction once I get further north in the snow. It pays to go with top rated tires, these are also V rated, not many winter tires with that rating. This is not a place to scrimp and save a hundred bucks or so.

Lucky you. It's almost December and we haven't even dropped below 7 degrees during the day in Toronto.
Strangely enough this is the first time I can proudly say I can't wait for 1 FOOT OF SNOW!!!

Hercules..... well any snow tire is better than no snow tire but I have them on my (other) vehicle I think they well... how do I say.... SUCK!!!! worst snows I ever had! The best I've had and I do tell all my friends to buy them is Nokian Hakkelplettas (sp?) Finland have the best rally drivers in the world as well as lots of snow.

Well, I run Nokian WRG2's year round and find that they are excellent in the winter. I never have any problems in wet, snow or ice. I do a lot of traveling on the highways with this setup on my allroad and have never had an issue, even in freezing rain and black ice. If I wanted to climb an ice wall I personally would get the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R. Only problem here in Canada is there is no competition for Kal-Tire so searching for a really good deal can be difficult.....Just my thoughts.

Everyone raves about the WRG2 - I just want to offer my 0.02$ - I find it incredibly loud and annoying. The pitch of the tire noise just drives me up the wall - thank god Kal Tire had a 30 day refund policy - I swapped to the Michelin Pilot Exalto AS and made them bite the price difference at around $50/tire. I'll either run dedicated snows in the winter or...live with it - CR reports that it is the best snow performing all season tire....we'll see - I doubt that's true...but we'll see....
I am quite picky about tire noise - but to each their own, just be aware...the WRG2 is not a "godly" tire -Kal Tire seems to think it is akin to god, but you will gain in some areas and lose in others....
