NEWS: Audi Marks U.S. Sales Record for the Month of November
They may not be the best selling luxury brand in this country quite yet but Audi has aspirations to one day sell more cars than its peers at Mercedes, BMW and even Lexus. If you are in doubt about their intentions all you have to look at is the number of new Audi model launches in recent years and their skyrocketing sales figures.
While most of the auto industry saw an uptick in sales in November Audi went one further by selling more vehicles in that month than it has in its entire North American history. Audi sold a total of 9,365 vehicles which surpassed the previous record set in 2006.
Leading the sales charge were strong debuts for the ultra-luxury A8 sedan and a record 788 sales for the evergreen (and “green” in TDI form) A3 hatchback. Whoever said North Americans don’t buy hatchbacks forgot to tell Audi. Also of note is the fact that 70% of new A3 sales were TDI diesel models.
Even more promising is the fact that compared to November 2009 Audi sales increased by 37.5%. Admittedly, last November was one of the worst new car sales months on record but Audi still ranks as the fastest growing luxury nameplate in this country.
Here are some more highlights of Audi’s resurgent sales path in the United States.
Audi Q5—Sales up 53% second only to the bestselling A4.
Audi A5—Set a new sales record for the month. Apparently people do have taste.
Audi A6—Sales up a whopping 54% even as all-new 2012 model approaches.
Audi Q7—Sales doubled as TDI model sales rise to 45% of total.
