Hang on. I just want to make sure I have this clear. There is a private mechanic's shop (not Audi Dealer) who had the equipment to program Audi Keys?? Sounds like a security concern to me. If I'm not mistaken all Audi Keys have computer chips in them that are programmed to match the car.

Re: Getting a New Key

Yeah they do. The keys need to be cut based on VIN, then they all have to be matched at once to the immobiliser through custom hardware, then they're individually programmed to the door locks.

Once Audi VW went through that lawsuit for having a monopoly on these keys they were obligated to allow indys to cut and program them. Not many of these guys are around but they're starting to pop up. This all happened about a year ago. So yes- not an Audi dealer able to provide this service.

Re: Getting a New Key

I also need to get a new key made after losing the flip key.
(Lost far away from home that should not be tracable back to my car I hope!)

Can anyone provide the address of the guy that can do this.. Will also want to order the flip part as well and reprogram it. I have not yet gone to the dealer on this as I figure it will cost and arm and leg for replacement.

Thanks
Richard

You can have the shop/dealer remove that lost key from the autorized ones, that way even if someone finds it and tries to use it it won't work anymore.

I think that occurs when the new keys are coded to the car. It doesn't carry over old key data, does it?
