To buy or Not to Buy
So i currently own a type s( love it, dont talk ****) but i have been seriously looking into an A4 1.8T quattro, preferably 02-04 or 05 if money allows. I have seen a few threads talking about weather or not they are good cars, but i jsut wanted to get a little more info about like. responsiveness to modding, maintenance and overall feel.
Also i have been autrotradering it up for a couple of weeks now and found some nice 02 1.8t with like 75kms for only 13k. The only problem is its automatic. Does all the automatic come with tiptronic? and how come there are very few manual tranns a4s?
Anything else anyone wants to say go ahead, as i will most likely purchasing something soon and want to know before i buy.
Thanks and i hope the flamers will keep it down for a noob that just wants to learn

Re: To buy or Not to Buy
Audi, like Porsche, make minor refinements each model year, so go with the newest A4 you can afford. In 2001 the 1.8T got some extra horse power and a very well ratioed 6 speed tranny. The early tiptronics have had some minor problems, if it fails you will be driving around in 3rd gear to get it to the shop. The tried and true manual is almost bullet proof. And of course the quattro has great benefits if you drive in snow.
I have owned two A4's a 1998 first generation 1.8T, and 2005 1.8T Quattro. In my opinion the 2005 is my favourite A4, and the 6 speed ratios are perfect for the car. You should be able to find an 05 with 6 speed with less than 80,000km for under $20k.
Good Luck

Re: To buy or Not to Buy
i owned an rsx before my current a4. i found the a4 with sport suspension to be a more sporty ride than the rsx. mine rsx was the base model, so your mileage may vary.
auto comes with tip as well as a sport mode that is just fantastic. avoid the front wheel drive CVT as they are problematic
