Exclamation Help please

I was looking at some cold air intakes. I found some k&n but the appearance of them looks very cheap and it takes away from the engine bay ALOT. I also dont like the flex hose. I was looking more for something like a polished tube i guess and better looking with a nice sized cone. Does any one know of any other companies that i should look into i know injen makes nice one but i couldent find any for my make? I drive a 1997 a4 1.8t quatro

Not sure if you are aware but what you have is already a cold air intake. It draws cold air from the front of the car through a filter directly into the engine. removing this and installing a cone type filter in the engine bay would draw all the warm air from the engine bay not from the front.

There is another modification specific to the B5 where you cut out the bottom of the air box and fibreglass in a mesh screen. Then in the air box install a custom bent pipe and cone filter (did this to my B5 S4). The idea is that it draws in cold air from the wheel well area and not from the engine bay.

Other than looks I don't believe you will get any major performance improvements from stock.

My philosophy is "use OEM filters and change more often"

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? I recently change mine and plan on doing so every Spring. Changing the filter is a preventative measure that will save your fuel pump. This may be the surging as well as an empty tank which doesn't help the filter. With an empty tank you could pick up particles from the tank and clog up the injectors as well.

I have no clue when the fuel filter was last changed. I would have to look into that From what i remember because recently i did a tire change and decided to fix a litle dent i had to take of the left rear wheel well and im pretty sure thats where the fuel filter is located but im not too sure, From the looks of it it looked like it was never changed and it was all dirty as well. So thanks for the head up ill get on that right away, i dont need to be replacing my fuel filter and the injectors on top of that if i dont act now . Actualy have you heard anything about the APR stage 1+ is it any good for stock internals?

Not being a turbo guy (Naturally aspirated V I really can't comment too much on the APR tune. However several of my friends in the Golden Horseshoe Audi Club have the APR tune and are very happy with it. There were no internal mods required for the tune. I understand that the tune was done at H2 Motorsport in Georgetown
