Engine rebuild for Allroad or sell for parts?
Hi everyone,
Was wondering if anybody had to rebuild the engine for Audi allroad, if so, what is the average price range to expect?
How much would audi allroad 2003 might sell with a killed engine?
I had the most unfortunate thing happen to me...This past summer I had an air filter changed in one of those drive-through oil changers. The person who changed the filter had no clue what he was doing. To make the story short, he installed the filter incorrectly with a huge gap that allowed all the dust and sand to get into the engine. Few days ago my car started to produce enormous amounts of smoke and I took it to the repair shop. The mechanics diagnosed a problem and showed me all the damage that was done by sand and dust. I am really stuck and dont know what to do. The price he's quoting me are in the range of $10.000. My car would probably cost with a good engine at most 13-15 K. So, I dont know, if I should go ahead and rebuild the engine, or just sell it for the parts? The question is, who would buy this car with a killed engine and how much it might sell for? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
It is Audi Allroad 2003 with 116.000 k. on it. thanks again.

This was the quote for used engine. The mechanic said that Audi does not sell new engines for that model.
Thanks for the reply anyway...

They said the extend of the damage can't be estimated to the full until they get inside. But most likely it will be the box? and 2 heads.
I'm not convinced at this point if it is at all worse fixing it or rather sell it as is. And yes, it is 2.7 Bi-turbo. I'm on my way the garage, lets see what more info I can get...

i might need a 2.8 for an A6, mine seems to be burning oil and it's very high mileage. How much do used engines go for? i know it depends on mileage etc but just a ballpark figure will do.
