Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
I'd second grabbing a new one, who knows what the fool before you has done to it or how they drove it.
Main reasoning behind that statement is oem audi parts are stupid expensive, you don't want to walk into a new audi that may or may not have a few "minor" problems cuz you will get burned

Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
The A4's a solid build. Try to get one from 2006-2008. Usually the first year of a build B7 2005 will have the most issues. Car companies usually have them cleared up by the next year's build(2006). Good luck with your purchase!

Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
Hey,
I'm looking to buy a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T (mayb quattro). Just wanted to ask all the 2006 A4 owners out there what they think of the car? How's the quality? What repairs have you done to it so far? What's broken on you? I'm looking to spend around $20-$23k before tax. I've seen some in auto trader for around this price with anywhere between 50k-80k km's on it. When taking it for a test drive or looking over the body, are there common problems or other problems you guys feel I should be looking for? This will be my first Audi. I'm coming from a Japanese auto background.
Thanks.

Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
I think I may be of help to you - I came from a 2001 Infiniti to a 2007 Audi.
The Audi has been quite trouble filled, but I love it. As long as you expect problems, but get a really neat German car...you'll be OK.
Problems
1) PCV Valve
2) Cam Shaft Position Sensor
3) TCM update
4) Seat switch
Driven for 10,000km. There is plenty of other stuff, but that's just because I insist everything be perfect...and I go hunting for TSB's (such as cam follower wear issues), and get it looked at. A 2006 Audi A4 may have the older intake cam thingy...just make sure you have the "B" version - either ask the dealer or do a google search on the 2.0T cam follower wear issues....
My Infiniti was never that reliable, but I love the Audi, I just keep telling myself it's been good to me =)

Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
I'm surprised you've had such a hard time with your 07. My 06 has been great and the only reason I'm selling is because we just got married and the wife can't drive stick. We're tradding up to the Q5 for her . The only issue I had with mine was the coil packs but they've all been replaced and I haven't had trouble since. Now when I take the car to the dealer they may be doing recall stuff that I haven't made myself aware of, but the day to day comute has been trouble free. Kinda makes me wish I never bought the extended warranty, but I guess who ever buys my car will benifit from that!
I'm on my third week without my car, have a huge bill, was less than a month out of warranty on a car serviced ahead of suggested intervals, and got zero support from Audi...
PS I have another account from over a year ago but forgot the password and the reset isn't working so I'd started a new one. I have more than 2 posts

Re: Buying 2006 Audi A4
Projectors in the B7 mean the car has Bi-Xenon HID headlights, otherwise it's using H7 Halogen bulbs. Bi-Xenons were an add-on option for the B7.

Bing search will bring up lots of DIY and information; two links above provide detailed info; you will need headlight assemblies and a modified wiring harness.
