Re: 04 a6 quattro 3.0 amp install
You can not connect the speaker lines directly to the RCA inputs of your amplifier. But you can connect them to your amplifier if your amp has a high level input. Most of the time it looks just like the speaker jacks of the amp, but smaller. It will be labeled high level input or speaker input. Sometimes an amplifier will have a jack for a wiring harness just for this purpose.

Re: 04 a6 quattro 3.0 amp install
I just went through this with my B7 RS4. The voltage and impedance on Audi cars is non-standard, so my new 1,000W Kenwood amp would not work off the line-in to the amp, or the line-outs (even though the Kenwood is supposed to handle this up to 40W).
I eventually had to use a line out converter - I bought a AudioControl LC2i and patched it to the line-out (speakers) and it works great. Nice to have that bass punch now. The LC2i also has outputs for mid-range and high-range as well.
