Just wondering how the power output of the my Symphony headunit compares to the new Alpine deck I just bought (18w RMS x4). Is it better or worse?

 

I think I read somewhere in a tech sheet that it's about 25 watts. You won't get better sound from either without an external amp that boosts it to higher level. The Alpine likely has pre-outs that allow you to do that. The Symphony does not so you need to splice into the wires.

But good sound is more than just power. Frequency response and distortion are oterh good indicators and ways of comparing the specs of various systems. That and your ears. Let me know if you want further info.

 

Yeah I figured. Once I install my deck, I'm also going to install alpine rear speakers. I can splice the existing wiring going into the oem amp (attached to oem speakers) into RCA's and just attach a new amp. Should be sweet.
