Looking for ideas on a system

Re: Looking for ideas on a system
IMO Best Bang for Buck would be the following:
Head Unit : Panasonic
(Don't knock it they make Awsome head units and Spec for Spec are
just as good as if not better than most other units I noticed that they
are not a really fussy deck will play almost anything where my other head
unit ($650.00 Alpine) would not play the Panisonic would and very little to no skipping.)
Speakers: Sony Explode (Front / Rear)
(They make a NICE 4-WAY SPEAKER) Don't laugh this brand does
just as good a job as Rockford or Kicker and b/c of the 4-way set up
they have a greater range than most speakers and you CAN'T beat the price on them
Amps: Phoenix Gold / Kicker / Rockford
Subs: Kicker / Rockford
And I can't stress this enough use the good stuff when using the RCA's and speaker wire
Don't buy the cheap dollar store RCA's and the cheap speaker wire that comes in the box
with the speakers. Wire it NEW with the Good Stuff.
Alot of people will go out and spend Thousands of Dollars on the Equipment but cut corners by using CHEAP wire.... This just blows my mind as if you were to take a 600hp V8 that has been tuned to the fullest than slap some cheap spark plug wires on it or just re use the old ones from the factory!!
Yeah they will work but you ain't getting the 600hp out of it. Just like speakers if you are not giving it the juice it needs it will work but you will not get the most out of it.
Hope this helps

Re: Looking for ideas on a system
Good Point J Ozzie
MTX subs are a great bang for the buck.
Another point I forgot to mention was that when picking a woofer and a Sub Box out
Make sure you READ the cubic space required to run the Sub correctly. Alot of people new to Audio Equipment try to get the best deal (who wouldn't) and buy the out of the store box.
If you take the time to stop look and read you will find it will make your equipment sound better and it will last much longer b/c its running properly.
I used to run a 1 Dual Voice Coil Rockford Fosgate 12" in a BandPass box (with the proper specs) and it would with out any issue out do most other 10" x 2 (Just as J Ozzie said)
I used to get alot of compliments on how much Bass I was able to squeeze out of 1 12"
Sub and I don't know how many times I seen mouths drop when I would open the trunk
and all they would see was 1 12" in a bandpass box most comments at that point would be
" Man I though you were running 2 15's " It was even better when they seen it was run with a little (600w) amp (Kicker).
If anyone reads these posts reguarding Audio Equipment take the time look stuff up on the Internet and do your reaserch on the equipment BEFORE you buy it you may find a couple things out that you didn't know before. As well take the extra time and set your system up right by using good RCA cables and Speaker wire and using a sub box spec'd to what the sub requires. It may take more time and may cost a couple bucks more but the pay off in the end is well worth it. I'm not saying that you need to blow the budget on boxes and wires but if you can afford the extra cost of doing it right than why cut the corners when you can get alot more out of it.
Hope this helps

Re: Looking for ideas on a system
Great info 5000MC10V, I think we forgot to tell him the diff boxes and waht they do
Ill give this one a shot and if anyone thinks ive left out detail please add.
there are 3 Diff boxes
1 is a Sealed box gives you a cleaner punch, Tighter bass
2nd is a Ported box, It will give you a louder bass not as tight as a sealed
3rd box is a Bandpass This will give you nothing but bass, It has almost its own filter system. The sub or subs will be inside the box with either 1 - 4+ ports comming out from the box which will cause some serious bass. Its insane the amount you can get from a Bandpass box...
Hope this helps

Re: Looking for ideas on a system
on a lower budget note, Go rockford, Subs and AMP for the price, it's the most bang for your buck, headunit, i'd say pioneer, lot's of functions good preouts, problem is doesnt match audi's colors. unless u get the avic d3. If your in Toronto and you need someone to install it, msg me.
Yes for lower budget opt for a Rockford it works fine and has best value for money
