I drive a 2001 A4....I'm torn between putting in my IDA-X100 Alpine deck with an iPod connection or just keeping my factory head unit and getting a Dension Gateway iPod controller (don't really know where to get them).

I like how the factory unit looks but my Alpine deck (with red lights and iPod display) would also look sweet. I'm also planning on putting in 4 new Alpine speakers as well as a sub so the Alpine head unit sub control would be advantageous.

What do you guys think? Consider overall price and set up headaches into your answer.

I would say invest your money and make it fast not add weight!

Well with the headunit now sure you get an okay set-up. With the alpine you are looking at more options and enabeling of bluetooth etc.... Which is really nice to have as well. If Sound is your thing and thats the only thing you are looking to do, then by all means it is worth it in the end. I have installed quite a few systems and each one was a pain in the ***! But the pay off was worth it all in the end. As far as systems go now I guess I have outgrown the big Bass and subwoofers, caps, amps...etc. The stock Bose is good enough for me!
