Those of you that have RS4's...

Right now I am thinking:
225/45R18 XL Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 Blackwall as the tires and
18X8.5 TRMotorsport MT1 Matte Grey as rims.

Considering that smaller is much better in winter conditions.

How well does that work in slushy conditions or on a solid ice cover? 255's are damn wide...

The 255's are wide, so they're not the greatest in slush, but not that bad.

Not much outside of a studded tire is going to be that good on solid ice, AWD or not.

With a good set of snow tires and responsible winter driving habits, you'll do fine in nearly any driving condition.

So, how did it go with 18" wheels and 225's?

What yr RS4 do you have? I have a 2007. I haven't asked Audi yet, but have been talking with tire stores and they all seem to be concerned about the size of the brakes with 18" wheels.

I have a 2008 and I went with the 18" and the 225's. That setup seems to be the best. I will get some info on the actual rims from the guys I bought the set from (believe it or not, I am not a petrol head I just drive the car

I live on the west coast and had a terrible time finding rims that would fit over the calipers. I wanted 18's but nothing would quite do it. Thus 19" R8 replicas with 225/40 R19 Bridgestone Blizzak LM25's were my only option. I couldn't find 19" winters in any other tire that i can have within 3 weeks. The 19's actually work extremely well on compact, ice, slush and fresh conditions. A little noisy and they look a little narrow on the car but they sure do the trick.
