I am either going to lease a new A4 or get a used S4. Im a little worried about the upkeep and repair costs for a used S4. Im sure I will have extended warranty coverage for a year or two but eventually that will run out.

Please share your knowledge about these models so that I can make this diffuicult choice. Thank you.

 

cant speak much about the b6 because i have a 2000 s4 but from what i hear the gas consumption is scray. I'll put it this way V8+awd=GAS$$$$$$. Overall owning and S4 is much more rewarding than owning an A4 anyday. Sure the maintanence is higher and the gas consumtion is scary but at the end of the day its what makes you happy.

Oh and someone i know has the v8 S4 and with a magnaflow exhaust my God does it sound good.

 

I had an A4 and I was getting pretty bad gas mileage somethinkg like 350km / tank city driving. So I am sure this comment is gonna get flammed, but I can see the S4 getting the same, so in my books its all good. I was contemplating the same thing, but decided to sell the A4 and drive a civic for a year or two until I finish up my schooling and then possibly get my RS4!

 

my 2007 S4 4.2 delivers about 400km/60 Litres in mixed driving without going insane.

My worst 60 litre tank ever was 325 km (all city, lots of pedal stomping...the sound is excellent)

My best 60 litre tank was 540km, 100% highway non-stop going avg 120km/h

Upkeep is indeed expensive...i.e. if a coil pack goes, and you replace them all (they tend to all go around the same time), you're looking at $750-1000...for something simple. Eight cylinders adds up. You can't ever forget that the car was $70,000+tax new, and that parts are not made by Magna...they're imported....and expensive.

Coming from a heavily modded A4 (loved that beast) I can tell you I've never looked back. Aside from the S being far more refined, the seats and sounds make it well worth the reduced gas mileage.

 

I crave an S4, need one bad, I was thinking of getting a used convertible since this won't be my daily driver I have my TT and GTI for that since I comute to the hood, Hamilton!

 

Just bought a 05 s4 and have loved every minute. Gas is bad but, you are driving an expensive luxury car All smiles since the day I have bought the car. I just put the full exhaust system on. Now everyone respects the grandfather of AWD. Respect,Power ,Comfort,Luxury. Everyone should be so lucky.

 

I bought my 2006 S4 Cabrio a couple months ago, and I LOVE it!!! As for gas mileage, I get about 305KM per 60L but I drive it like it's meant to be driven... 0-60 as fast as possible pretty much every time!

I highly suggest a B6 S4 to anyone, I am coming from the mindset I only wanted BMWs (had a 330i) but I'm sold on Audi, the handling is so much better.

Make sure you get some nice thick tires.

p.s. is the 2006 S4 cab a B6 or B7? I know there's a little lag on them.
