New tires..

New tires..
Just a quick poll to see what people out there are running and what they think of the following tires.
Below are four tires I am considering for this summer season (prices are as quoted by my local shop, including install and balance):
1) Barum-Bravuris (made by Continental) $1,075 cnd
2) Pirelli P-Zero Rosso $2,025 cnd
3) Potenza R050 Pole Position $1,675 cnd
4) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 $1,900 cnd
I am reluctant to spend $2k on tires to run on such bad roads... leaning towards Potenza (they are also the best looking design).
thoughts?

Re: New tires..
WOW!!! Those are extremely high prices. who ever you are buying tires from are taking to town. Did they ask you to bend over and grab your ankles when they gave you that quote.
A simple look at Tires & Wheels - 1010tires.com the absolute tire and wheel authority would give you an idea of what you should be paying and even those prices are a tad high. Please do your self a favor and shop around. they are trying to take you to town course you drive a S4 imagine if you drove a RS4.
As for the choice in tires I had the Pzero rosso's before and absolutely loved them.
P Zero Nero is another option if looking at Pirelli.

Re: New tires..
Thanks for the site. You're right, the prices are definitely lower. But they don't include installation and balancing. Any idea how much should I expect to pay for that?
(the prices I listed included taxes and install)

Re: New tires..
On average you would fiqure $20 or less including valves. even if you take a nice round number like $100 dollars and add that plus taxes its still cheaper than your quote. My point is shop around cuz those guys are ripping you OFF!!!

Re: New tires..
Have to disagree. Those prices are pretty typical for retailers. $1900 is pretty much what I spent at costco 2 years ago for my PS2's. You have to consider the after sale service and whether there is or isn't a road hazard warranty on them. Factor in free balancing every season and so on and saving 30 bucks a tire isn't worth it in the end.
That aside, given the choice I wouldn't run anything but PS2's on my S4. They're quiet, they stick like glue wet or dry. The ride quality (which no one ever talks about ) is phenomenal. Super crisp response. The tread is very appealing, it looks like a F1 pattern for the road. They rank #1 in any test they're ever in...'nuff said.
The other end of the spectrum is the BFgoodrich KDW2. I'm dying to burn these tires and get a different set. BUT...they were cheap. $1100 all said and done.
The Pilot Exalto PE2 has caught my eye though...maybe close to the PS2 with a little more tire life? ...

Re: New tires..
All i'm saying is to shop around. there are deals to had out there. It looks like thats your standard discount off list price. there are shops out there that give deeper discounts. I don't know maybe the ontario market is different than QC. Oh there are also manufacture rebates going on right now. I know Pirelli has a $hun off any PZero line.

Re: New tires..
Suggest check with Tiretrends. They are in BC. Out of province shipping charges only 1 tax which more than covers shipping costs, etc.
I gave up on local tire suppliers for higher end tires. So far Tiretrends has beat local pricing every time for 5 tire sets including some orders with rims!

Re: New tires..
I'm looking too. I've used the PZero Neros - great tires, but horrendous treadwear. I drive aggressively maybe once or twice a week, otherwise casual driving/commuting. I cooked the PZeros in 14,000 kms. That's not enough for me. I know they're great performers, but I rarely approach the limits these tires can handle, never mind my car, so..... for me not worth it.
For the record, I've purchased my last 3 sets of tires for car and motorbike off ebay. Including shipping, duty, etc. it's a steal - well worth the savings. I have my own roadside assistance, so the support system behind the tires is of little consequence to me - I pay less than $100 for them to be mounted, balanced and installed and I'm off.
I will likely try the Goodyear Eagle F1s. I've heard from a number of S4 owners that swear by them, but I'm not sure which models they're talking about - I see now that there are a bunch of different F1s. I would have never considered Goodyears unless I heard from them.
I've also met another S4 owner who runs Toto T14's and is mightily impressed by them. I know nothing about them.
Any other suggestions from someone looking for not quite the high envelope of performance, and perhaps slightly better treadwear? I appreciate kbonarek's comments on ride quality - you aren't kidding. Yes, I have a 340 HP V8 and I use that sometimes, but 95% of the time, I'm commuting in bumper-to-bumper traffic in Edmonton, where the expansion cracks and potholes make my great handling suspension feel like a curse more than a blessing.
Anyway, I've been lurking long enough - I thought it was time to post something. Thanks in advance for your continuing posts.

Re: New tires..
My car came with Dunlop tires, so far seem to be alright, maybe a little harder than the Bridgestone Potenza's on my M3. I have run Michelin Pilot Sports which are a great summer tire, but pricey. I've had good luck with some of the higher end Yokohama products and Pirelli is a great choice too. Lots of interesting designs and choices anyways, best of luck.
