Default Looking for a new S4 2005-up

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could give some advice in buying an Audi S4. Looking for the newer ones newer 2005's and up with the 4.2L V8's. What generations are those, the B7? I am new to Audi's so please bear with me. Also I noticed some 2005's with the V8's have the newer look where the grills extend all the way down from the hood to the bottom of the front bumper(which is the style I like). But some of the other 2005's with V8's the grill are separated by a colored bumper, why is that.

Also what years are the best ones to get with the 4.2L V8's that have the least amount of problems?

What problems are most common to their specific years.

Right now I have my eye on some 05's since they are more affordable for me.

Any info would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.

Thanks in advance.
Andy

The B6 S4's have the dual grills (2003-2005). 2005.5 on = B7 and have one piece grills. You probably can pick up a B7 out of the US for the same price as a B6 up here. A couple things I have read about the B7: the rear sway bar is thicker (24 versus 22 mm) in the B7 thereby providing reduced understeer. Also, the exhaust on the B7 is dual on each side (versus B6 single each side) ... some have suggested the sound is a bit meaner in the B7 ??

Lots of info on Audizine and Audiworld ...

One thing that all the 4.2's share - they're very thirsty at the pump ! That said, the seats, the sound and refinement make it VERY worthwhile !

Good luck !

do the S4's require 91+ octane pump gas? i can see why it would be really thirsty at the pumps because of the V8. i know from my old man's Cadillac STS on regular alone costs over $80 just to fill it up.

so judging by the info above, there are two generations of S4's in 2005. The B6 2005 with the split grills, and the B7 2005.5 with the single grill. and in "04 is when they started the V8's?

When people talk about gas mileage I keep hearing people saying it cost so and so $ to fill up. That just shows how big the tank is. It's really 'interesting' to hear a person say my car is good on gas, only takes $30 to fill it up.

Anyways nice car, but as a price. Gas mileage, and maintenance cost. I am shopping too and contemplating.

i totally agree with you that gas mileage and the price to fill up are two different things. with the price of gas these days and it shows no signs of reversing or slowing down for that matter. just something i have to consider if i decide to get one or not. although i dont have to use it as my daily driver. but right now the prices are looking really good especially the '05's. what an awesome machine for what i am seeing for around 25,000-30,000

Right.

I recently filled up at the track ... @ $1.50/L it was an $81. fillup and got less than 300 kms on the tank. My only complaint with my car is that the tank isn't bigger to avoid going to the pump as often. Everything else about the car is awesome !!

I get around 600Km per tank for a 75L fill. Hiway mileage with a soft foot. Car has an 82L tank. Mileage is brutal first few months while the "newness" wears off. I could kill a tank in under 300Km.

well...that's the weirdest mod I've ever heard (82 L gas tank). My 2007 S4 has a 62 litre tank. So do all of the B6/B7 A4/S4/RS4 cars. Is your S4 a race modded car?
