Default Extended Warranty for 2002 S4

This is my first post, I've just purchased a 2002 S4 with 150,000km. It has a good service record and appears to be in good condition and drove very well. I'm considering the purchase of an extended warranty form Lubrico (lubrico.com). This must be purchased from the dealer. There are several options available, but I considering the 4 year Power train Warranty which covers the turbos. There are other options to cover other equipment. Does anybody have experience with purchasing an extended warranty from this company that might provide me with some advise?

Top of line coverage for just about everything is about $2,000 for 4 years / 80,000 km. Since this price is the same for any vehicle (domestic/import 2WD/4WD etc) maybe it is good deal since Audi is generally fairly expensive to repair. My general thought is to maintain the S4 well and save the money for a repair, if it ever happens. Whenever I buy a warranty nothing happens, until the warranty runs out!

Any other thoughts, recommendations, hints, secrets, would be appreciated

Cheers,

Peter

Hello,

Welcome to the forum. First of all I'll assume that you're buying the car from a smaller dealer, hence the Lubrico warranty being offered instead of an audi extended powetrain warranty. I have not had first hand experience with Lubrico, so you should take my opinion with a grain of salt. I've had acquaintances who have sold Lubrico warranty and they claimed, they got a $100 kickback per sale. As with any warranty, the warranty corp makes the most money in situations in which either nothing goes wrong, or something goes wrong and they find a loophole not to pay.

What does this all mean? Absolutely nothing. I've heard from him tho that the more Lubrico contracts a dealer sells, the more likely a problem with the vehicle is going to get fixed if it arises.

Thats all...

Congrats on your purchase!

One of the more expensive concerns is the 2.7T Turbo's. If one fails, typically you want both replaced and it'll cost more than double your $2K warranty fee at an Audi dealer... labor book time is approx 35hrs plus parts.

Is the car chipped or do you plan on installing a chip? Stock K03 turbo failure risk does go up with increased boost. Some B5 S4 owners report 200K KMs and more on stock ECU and turbo's. I am 3rd owner as of 47K KMs and one of my K03's was whining at 80K KMs. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to replace with K04's as reliability is higher, especially if chipped.

Thanks for the advice. I picked up the new buggy today and went with the one year unlimited miles extended warranty. It was pretty cheap and gives me some piece of mind. The warranty calls for oil changes every 5K and proof must be sent into them. I figure that a lot of warranties get voided quickly because of this condition (not forgetting to change oil but forgetting to send the receipt). Since I will be running synthetic changing every 5K seems excessive, I would probably go 8K. However for the first year when it is under the warranty I will change oil every 5K to keep warranty valid.

One of my main concerns was the turbos. All sounds well at this time. No plans for chipping at this time. Thanks for the K04 recommendation, I will definately keep in mind when the time comes. The count down is on.

You just spent what ever amount you spent on a warranty that means.... well lets just say shhht. I too had purchased a lubrico warranty ... the same as you and yes it covered the turbos. One of my turbos went.... the guy who came to the shop to check things out from lubrico was a total geek who knew nothing about turbo asperated motors. The turbo went because of normal wear and tear but the guy claimed that I had the cars ecu redone and thus causing the turbo to "over boost" its specifications. I had not even thought of chipping the car... well not at the time and never the less the guy was looking at the ecu with a screwdriver pointing to where it had been open by noticing the scatches on the side... THAT HE MADE WITH THE ******* SCREWDRIVER HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say they do whatever it takes not to pay out at all hence the oil changes every 5000 kms. My oil is redline fully synthetic race proven oil and its not cheap and someone is going to tell me to change it before the manufacture of the stuff does??? Good luck with your warranty guy who comes out to check anything on your car. Oh and P.S. 2001 audi s4 ----- 18,000 dollars
tow truck to local shop ----350 dollars
lubrico warranty ------------2500 dollars
Punching your lubrico warranty guy square in the mouth when he says "its your fault the turbo blew" ------ PRICELESS

Thanks for the warning about lubrico. If I ever need to make a claim I'll watch out for their dirty tricks. I only paid $300 which may be worth it if the first swing is free!

Man that lubrico guy would be part of my storage in the trunk right about now. I chose not to purchase the warranty because they asked $2600 for a 4 year warranty and I figured the worst case is the turbos are gonna go and the warranty didnt even cover that so I will opt out for a bigger turbo when it goes for the same price of the warranty. the timing belt isnt covered, and I asked what was and they said the windows in the car the motors on those windows and stupid **** that would rarely ever break down and you can replace your self. So the dealer screws over once again I think the score is 7-1 for the dealer. As I only got $6 dollars off the regular price of windshield wipers as I was told the wrong price on the phone, oh yeah and they raped me on that one too. So get ready to bend over @ the dealer!
