Thanks sakimano, except for the sport diff and carbon all other features I already have on my Q5 so no point losing them. Only reason I am going with that color is cuz my Q5 currently is black.

We own both a 2011 S4 and 2011 Q5. If you don't need a higher ground clearance, 4,000 lb+ towing capacity and a larger cargo capacity, then the S4 is a VERY good choice.

We love both the S4 and Q5. The S4 is higher on the 'fun factor' scale, especially with the DSG (S-Tronic) transmission choice. As for the driver's interface, you will feel right at home in either vehicle as the interior's are pretty much the same. The seating in the S4 is 'tighter'; very much in line with the car performance feel.

We have 18in. winter wheels and Blizzaks on the S4 and it is very sure-footed. Actually, in icy conditions, I prefer the S4 since it has a much lower center of gravity. With snow accumulation, the Q5 is better.

Happy Shopping!

CanadianNorth: I appreciate your feedback, thanks very much. Looks like the S4 has won. In Toronto there is probably 2-3 days a year where there are those a few hours where snow is accumulated so much that you might need an SUV to plow through. The city is pretty quick at clearing it out. I find that 9 of the 12 months of the year roads are pretty clear of ice/snow so the S4 might make better sense. Keeping in mind the Quattro is still there so no worries even on snow. Also since the Q5 sits on the A4 frame other than the clearance it's pretty much the same thing (except for what's under the hood).

Thanks again.

I can echo CanadianNorth's comment regarding the S4's performance on ice. I have 18" aftermarket alloy rims mounted with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 tires on mine. Last week, on "snowmaggedon" (yeah, right) day, I had to drive into Toronto. There were few cars on the road, but on a plowed stretch of the QEW in Beamsville, a van started to slide about 500m ahead of me. As soon as I started to brake, it became obvious that the road was sheer ice. The sliding van collected two other vehicles before they all headed into the median. My car slowed gradually but steadily, ABS practically buzzing, and tracked dead straight, taking me safely past the mess. To say I was pleased with the car's (and tires') performance that day would be an understatement.

One other winter note: the washer fluid reservoir is pretty small, and with the headlamp washers and 6 jets on the windshield, I've been finding myself refilling it every week or so. Not that I mind having the excuse to peek under the hood...

Q5 is gone, S4 is here.
