Default 2000 Audi S4 B5 audio system

I have two loose wires with what appears to be audio system plug on the ends. Any idea what these are for? is it possible they were for a multi CD changer or some other factory option which has been stripped out. The wires are loose in the compartment with the jack (ps I think the audio system the way it is sounds like ****)

Another question I have is regarding an APR chip. When I bought the car the dealer told me the previous owner removed the chip, but I now understand that no physical chip gets added - isn't is a computer program or a flash? if this is the case why would anyone remove the "chip" - isn't is useless to anyone except an Audi mechanic? Once it's chipped, isn't it always chipped?

1st... The Wire,
Does your car have the Phat Noise box back there near the tool kit? If not its probally for that system. Mine has it and I have no idea what its for nor what it does. Its some type of old school music storage devise I think.

Replacement speakers can be tricky as I believe thery are 2ohm. My buddy had issues with his B5 S4 bose system and the stereo guy said to pull it all out and start from scratch. Then proceeded to verbally bash Bose, Audi, VW and anything else not from Japan. Throwing around his not so humble opinions. My buddy left and hasn't been back.

The "chip".

Old school cars (wow cant belive cars from the 90's are oldschool now) have early and rather primative operating systems like OBD 1 and OBD 2. as far as know these systems had "chips" My old 94 Corrado had a "chip" for instance. Your S4 runs VAGCOM and the phisical chip is no longer there. Its a reflash now. Before a person sells a car he might sell the ECU and ask for the buyers stock ECU + cash. When I went to stage3 I swapped my old ECU that had a stage1 program with my friends stock ecu. Since I needed a new program I might as well given him the stage1 and start my stage3 from scratch with his stock ECU.

He's happy, I'm happy and he got $600 of programming for free.

Hope that helps,

Figure out your cat. problem?

Thanks for your help on this. I have taken the car into an Audi specialist to give it the once over and reset the various fault codes.

He said I have after market pipes from header to tips. I am leaving the pipes as is for now. I might put in high flow cats later if I have to to get through our semi-annual emission testing.

The mechanic told me it has H & R coil overs and a 1/2" lower suspension set-up and bigger brakes also. He said the car engine was strong producing 8 lbs of boost. It looks like the car was full Stage 2 with the chip or programming removed. There's also duct tape wrapped around the intake hose connection. I figured this might also mean it had APR intakes and removed before the car was sold to me. I need the service records for this car desperately, or else I think I need to change the timing belt and water pump - it has 183,000 km

I love this car and intend to upgrade it as money allows. By far the best car I have ever owned. I could sink 10K into this car and have a beautiful reliable, fast sedan. I love the fact is also quite rare in Hibiscus Red with Tiptronic and un-badged.
