Both of your statements are false.
You can't install this one in B5. You will need A6 unit for that because A6 unit faceplate is closest match to B5 radio opening.

And as the market value... are you reffering to ebay sellers from Eastern Europe? or prices in US / Canada. Because there is a difference when you pay for broken unit or the one without PIN on ebay, extra shipping charges, customs and in the end you are left with brick.

As far as your setup..it will fit B7 and B8 just fine. Direct swap.
B8 is a new MMI in dash system.

 

hmmm....i have a B5 A4 99.5

it has a single DIN concert radio right now...would i be able to make this work? i have the double din cage on hand with me too as i plan to conver it.

 

Depends on the size of your new cage. If its B5 size, then you will need A6 unit.
A4 unit will work but there is a difference in faceplate so A4 unit in B5 cage will leave few milimeter gap on both sides.

If your cage is from B6 then A4 unit will be perfect fit
