Joel: I am replacing the heater core on a 95 Cabriolet (90). I am in the same
point as you when you posted the original message. Everything is out, the
heater box is separated from the ac evaporator portion of the box and is loose
except for at the very back near the gas pedal.

I hope you got it solved, if so what was the solution?

Thanks

Oh, and if anyone else has a suggestion please chime in. It definitely isn't glued/sealed, of course a concealed fastener is certainly possible, but it is loose enough to move somewhat, except the back near the gas pedal.

Got it!.

The problem was that the manual says that there are 2 nuts that have to be removed on then engine side of the firewall ... which is correct.

It also has a diagram which shows the 2 nuts but it is WRONG. There are 2 nuts a couple of inches from the coolant inlet and outlet pipes, they are oriented vertically and they are pictured within 2 inches of each other. There are 2 nuts on the firewall just like the picture, but the lower one IS NOT the correct nut. The correct nut is lower by 6 inches. I had not noticed it previously because I thought i had the correct nuts removed.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

They are not glued/sealed onto the chassis instead there are2 nuts which are accessible from the inside of the car these the coolant inlet and outlet pipes, they are oriented vertically . There are 2 nuts on the firewall.
