audi 5000 cd 9-'87
Hi, proud owner of this "new" vehicle. Owners manual in French, can't figure
out for sure what the Bar position is on the little display, vacuum pressure
in engine? or so? Any hints? Normal value for this gadget?
Thanks Richard

If you are referring to the 90 degree scale guage with a five bar max,
it is the oil pressure calibrated in BAR (barometric pressure or
atmospheres) for oil pressure.

Re: audi 5000 cd 9-'87
Richard,
If it's a part of the digital display in the center of the instrument panel,
that is your manifold boost pressure. If it's only reading 0.1 or 0.2,
you've got some serious boost leaks (your car has a turbocharger, right?),
or the hose to the Engine Control Unit to the right of the passenger's feet
is disconnected or the pressure transducer in the ECU is busted, or ???.
Normally, it should read in the vicinity of 0.7 or 0.8 while cruising, and
up to 1.4 with a stock engine management chip and wastegate spring, and 1.8
or more in modified form.
You can order a new owner's manual from Audi (ask your dealer), or get a
used one on eBay - and look for a Bentley manual as well.
Cheers!
