Two weeks ago I replaced my 2002 Passat Wagon 4motion GLX with a 2001
Audi Allroad 2.7 Twin Turbo 6 speed. The only flaw the Audi has is the
pixels in the center of the cluster.

So I ventured out, found and bought a used Allroad cluster on ebay. Of
course you know what comes next. I installed it (I own a Mercedes
Shop) and the car wouldn't stay running. I googled the issue and found
out that I have the immobilizer generation 3 and that only the Audi
dealer can program these clusters.

I called Checkered Flag in Virginia Beach, dead end, they refuse to
install a "used cluster." Mad as hell I called the direct Audi of
North America phone number in my paperwork. They told me installing a
used cluster is at the discretion of each dealer and that they can't
warranty parts I bring in myself.

They finally gave me phone number to the nest dealer in my area which
is Audi in Richmond VA (over an hour away) I called them and they are
happy to assist me with the installation of the used one.

Unreal, any thoughts on this ?

How do I obtain an SKC for Immobilizer and Key-Matching functions?

We do not know of any way to retrieve an SKC for VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda vehicles
other than getting it from an official dealership. Prior to 2002, some
vehicles were delivered with a scratch-off panel on a plastic tag that
contained the 4 digit PIN code. Starting in 2002, dealerships implemented
the WIN2 system to provide SKC's to their technicians and customers.
Starting April 1, 2005, VW/Audi dealerships switched to the new GEKO system,
whereby their factory scan tools dial up the factory while connected to a
car. Under this system, the technician no longer sees the SKC at all and you
will need to bring your vehicle into the dealer to have Immobilizer work
performed. VAG-COM does not interact with the GEKO system. Check out our

After spending 7 hours on the road, I came back with the same problem.
The dealer (Westbroad Audi in Richmond VA) tried to program my used
cluster and they ran into problems.
I had a lengthy talk with the technician , he said the he started the
adaptations, but then half way through it stopped, he hit continue and
a message popped up. Cluster exceeded the 100 KM 62,000 miles and
adaptions could not be carried out. He said he tried manually entering
the numbers, still didn't work.

I got a print out as well that shows two possible causes, the one
mentioned above and that the cluster had already once been
reprogrammed at 60K miles. I'm pretty upset as I spent $113.00 on the
used cluster, $ 205.88 with Audi and who knows how much gas driving up
there and back.

In all fairness I have to say this though. The customer service at
Westbroad Audi in my opinion is outstanding. They asked if I mind that
they check the entire car over. They found a lose strut tower and
fixed it at no extra charge. Then the tech came back and asked if I
liked the car washed. "How much?" I asked. Nothing I was told. Instead
of giving me a laundry list the tech came back and explained with a
service manager that I had a few minor issues but that car was in
overall great condition.
Upon request the tech gave me a channel number that allows you to
unlock the new cluster.
When I got home I carefully took the new cluster apart to expose the
circuit board. Appears to me that the center display could be removed
from the cluster and replaced separately if you're handy. I will
attempt this surgery in the next two days.
