Default 2013 A6 Timing Chain Failure

I took my A6 in to Royal Oak Audi for a non related service issue and they told my timing chain tensioner was max’d out and the timing chain needs replacing, a $2100 repair. This was at 108,000 km. We had extended warranty until 100,000 km and it had passed its 100,000 km service at the dealership with no mention of this issue.
Audi refuses to cover this repair as it is past its warranty period.
Funny how they knew to check this at 108 k but they didn’t check it or didn’t mention it at 100 k.

Is anyone else having this issue?

There was class action lawsuit for the same timing chain issue, same year, same engine that for some reason doesn’t include the A6. Audi is covering the timing chain repair and in some cases, the cost of repair of an engine failure, but of course they won’t admit any liability. Here is a link to info on the class action lawsuit:
