Question Block Heater ????

Any one have any info on Block Heaters? I would like to install an in-line 120V coolant heater, but I don't know where to install it or what kind to install.

I have been looking into this myself. The problem with our cars I feel is that the thermostat is located on the lower hose - this would block any convection from the heater. Maybe the inline heater would heat the water enought to open the thermostat - then all the heat goes out the top!?!

Mabe this thread opens another question - do you need two heaters for "v" engines? if not, then won't one side stay cold?

I'd hate to humor the wise guy, but maybe I will google it...

Hey, thanks for your replies. SO what i have done is called my local Audi steelership and it turns out that the parts guy I spoke to was new (i.e. he doesn't know the audi secricy code yet.) So he told me that what the dealer does is buys a glue-on oil pan heater from their local NAPA and glue it to the bottom of the pan. SO I have since returned the in-line heater that I had bought and purchased and installed a silicon oil-pan heater pad. Also, I have installed a battery blanket and I am going to tie the two plugs together into one 120V outlet on a thrermocoupling so that they come on when it gets cold. I would like to hear your feed back on my install. Also to Andrew, the point of signing onto an Audi forum is to ask guys questions, quirks and brags about their Audi's. Why did you sign up??

This is pretty much whats done in Canada i think. I've seen a few pics of the installs of the oil pan heater...pretty good install and should help a lot in the winter.
