Unhappy ZF Transmission rebuilds??

I need a rebuild on my 2001 A6, 4.2L. Tranny code FBC, any advice would be great.

I tried to find a used transmission from a scrap yard and would you believe there is not one in Canada. Found 3 in the states but they all want $1600 to $2500 US. the dealer wants $6800 for one. I figure a rebuild would be a safer bet but I'm having a hard time finding someone to do it that I can trust.

Your best bet is an indie shop that specializes either in transmissions or someone who can do it who specializes in German cars.

I'll ask around and see if I can find someone who has done this and where they ended up going.

I have a transmission from my 2000 A6 4.2. Only issue is that it seems like its slipping when switching from 3rd to fourth. It only happens under light throttle and this was not the reason for me pulling the tranny, I went 2.7T

If your interested, make me an offer.

Cheers!

Thanks but I ending up taking it to a Mr. transmission in Guelph. Had a cracked drum and they say the torque converter was in rough shape. You should unload that tranny on e-bay, it is he only used one in Canada from what I could see.

Whats the mileage on the tranny? Has it ever had any service (fluid, filter, etc..)?

168,000 Km, I had it for about one year and it was booked in a couple of time to have the service done but something keep coming up. I had it booked in for the Monday and the tranny went the night before. go figure! Nice $4400.00 procrastination. I will be taking it in the timing belt and water pump next week.

Thanks but I think I'm good. This rebuild should last a while.

Whats the mileage and how much? I have so many spare parts laying around - cant hurt to have a spare tranny added to the mix!

BTW - I have 156,000ish and did a fluid and filter aroung 120,000... shifts like new (once it warms up)
