Hey guys, I saw this thread and thought that its not necessary to start another one. I want to chip my 2004 A6 2.7T S-Line. The power gain is freaking crazy and I want to get it done but Im a bit, how should I say, SCARED and UNSURE if I should do it or not lol.

Are the stock turbos on the A6 capable of handling PSI boost? I know for sure that the PSI is at 9. 4.5 each turbo. I would like to take them up to 8 each.

What you guys think?

K&N filters make no difference in performance. The stock OEM or Fram filters are just as good at half the price. There are several sites that dispute the performance of the K&N and the waste of money they are.

If you want to improve performance on the 4.2 there are things like exhaust changes, chip tuning and intake spacers. Check out JHM motorsport for details.

The stock K03 Turbo's on the 2.7T can handle being chipped as long as good oil maintenance and handling is practised. Having said that, chipping will help reveal common weaknesses with age like clogged PCV system, weak stock BPV's and TBB, Timing Belt, etc. Generally it is recommended to do maintenance on those items when chipping.

BTW the total boost is stock 9psi meaning each K03 Turbo is running 9psi. Chipping Stage1 will take both Turbo's up to 15 - 18PSI each depending on chip brand. Smaller Twin Turbo's ensure the total air volume is available to support each bank of the V6 along with quick spool up at relatively low RPMs.

As MikeH says for the 4.2, check with JHM and also consider contacting Mike at VAST.

Interesting. I didnt know that both were at the same PSI boost level. I changed my TB in January and I am about to do it next year especially since I put lots of highway miles on it. In regards to the stock BPVs, any suggestion for replacements? and if you know more about this, I am looking for a replacement SMIC that can cool the oil temp a bit more. Any suggestions?
