Default Catalyst Converter

Hello everybody, i am new to this site and i need some help.

I own a 2001 A6 4.2, one of my cat is gone. I was thinking maybe to buy a hi flow cat instead of an stock, the stock cat is $1.100. One thing that i am scared of is that if i change the one cat the other might go too later on.

Is it better to buy two high flow cats or change the stock one?

thanks

I'm no expert but i would think if your upgrading one you should do both. If your just going with oe cats 1 should be ok. Also aftermarket cats will change the tone a bit maybe a bit more raspy.
Maybe look into some downpipes... don't know if they make it for your car though.

What is your mileage?

Audi (and other mfg's) will replace cats after the factory warranty expires due to Federally mandated Emissions standards. The ceiling on the cat replacement mileage was something like 160K KMs ? (please confirm). Suggest check with your local Audi dealer to see if your car would be covered.

I have an '01, I believe the warranty card says that stuff is covered up to 130,000Km - But if its federally mandated then it must have more coverage....

If its not covered can i have your old ones?

Replaced both of mine with Magnaflow aftermarket units - installed and purchased for $500.00! No probs with CEL - car runs smoothly and improved MPG!
