The shifter on my tiptronic A6 is loose (sideways), ie, moves from manual to auto when I am taking a turn. Any ideas? My mechanic thought I would have to replace the entire assembly for $700+. Mine is a "99 with $180K+ miles (and still going strong!). Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem.. the tiptron works still but could almost engage taking a corner (especially since the thing can corner at 80) not a deal breaker for me when i test drove but $4300 with 153thou on it i absolutely could not pass up. My question. Does anyone know how much it does cost to fix? i bought it less than a month ago and the dealer has a 50/50 warranty on it and i think i could rope in a half price fix. also my cruise control does not work which i have heard is another common problem with the 99's anyone out there wanna lend a hand hit me up... i might only buy audi/ vdub from now on i am so in love with this machine!!
