Thoughts After 3 Weeks

Re: Thoughts After 3 Weeks
Well... yes I'm serious, but I guess I should qualify that. IF I ran to empty that's what I'd get. My current all time calculated average is 8.09 l/100km, so with a 64l tank that's 791 kms. My point is that in a bind I know I can drive that distance per tank; since I keep records, I don't have to prove it to myself by running dry... Here's my data for 29 refuellings:
kms per tank:
average 648.7 kms with 52.5 liters (8.09l/100km)
maximum (longest distance) 754.7 kms with 58.4 liters (7.74)
maximum (most fuel used) 749.4 kms with 59.4 liters (7.93)
worst tank (in winter) 647.2 kms with 56.1 liters (8.67)
Main differences I see is you have an auto I have a manual, and in the Vancouver area you're possibly more in town or in mountains, while I'm mostly on level ground.
I also said I don't have a heavy foot - I just enjoy the car without the urge to beat it; I'm sure I could easily average 520kms a tank if I worked on it!

Yes...but it doesn't seem out of the ordinary from earlier threads to mine.
Notice that many of the others are 6 peed manual transmissions which on the highway won't have as low RPM in top gear as the 8 speed...ie. I'm 1800 RPM @ 120KLM and 2000 RPM @ 130KLM.
Also I noticed a much heavier A5 that was still getting really good range...740KLM.
Check back with your dealer for a diagnostic...there must be a logical reason for such a difference.

FWIW, I have the quattro 6sp Tip with 18s and I just did 500kms coming back from Ottawa with over 1/4 tank to go. The computer DTE was still reading 300kms so a hypothetical range of 800 (I did about 30kms of city driving as well). And no, I was not being a granny. I do know that the onboard computer is a bit delayed with DTE but i'm still optimistic about it.

Re: Thoughts After 3 Weeks
Further to my earlier post, I just did a 1400+ kms round trip up north this weekend, mostly single lane country highways (90km/h speed limits) and through the odd small towns and villages. I used my cruise control whenever I could, set typically between 104 and 109 km/h. My goal was to see what the fuel consumption could be in neither slow nor fast but mainly worry-free driving.
I filled up just before leaving and filled up when I got back home.
1st tank: 617 kms 45.9l for 7.44 l/100kms
2nd tank: 835 kms 57.9l for 6.93l/100kms
That's pretty good for an all-wheel-drive car of this size and weight. I'm happy (and impressed!).

Found out was wrong about fold down mirrors in reverse. They have to be set while in reverse with mirror switch turned to far right. They will then turn down next time you put the car in reverse.

Re: Thoughts After 3 Weeks
So I have now had my 2011 A4 Premium Plus for 3 weeks now. I love the car but do have a few thoughts:
1. The maps that are loaded in the Nav are at least 2 years old. We have a newer (2 years old) bridge that was built and it is not on the Nav.
2. I miss the power folding mirrors that I had in my 2007 A4.
3. My gas milage has not been all that good. I am averaging about 400Km to a tank. I am not heavy with my foot. Is it just case of the break in period?
4. The MMI is easy to use, but does take some time to learn.
Overall I am so happy! Sorry no pics yet - it will just not stop raining!!

I have the same problem regarding the gas milage. I drive an a4 quattro automatic, and like you not havy foot at all. My average is the same 400 km with a tank. Average in the city close to 14/100km. On highway dough I am very happy it averrage 6.6/100km. Very strange the city gas consumption I will call the dealership.

Re: Thoughts After 3 Weeks
Thoughts after 20 months-
This car is great. Stable, steady, deceptively fast. Swallows 4 people with luggage and hardly feels it.
Drove my old B6 a few weeks ago, brother in law has it in Colorado springs. That car has 125,000 miles and feels almost like new. Original suspension, exhaust. SMaller and halfway between A3 and new A4. Has bad reaction to high altitude, needs 2700 rpms to make any boost.
Drove 2007 A3 as loaner last week. That is a fun car. Does not feel like a Golf. Its smaller and nimbler than A4, but less suspension and engine and room. Still, a nice car.
