Took delivery of a base 2013 A4 last month and have noticed something strange.
After starting the car and driving a few meters, I can feel a shudder in the gas/brake and hear a little grinding noise. It's only on the first turn - like pulling out of a parking spot and hanging a quick right - and then it's gone. Almost feels like something is grinding in the steering.
I read somewhere that the 2013s have power-saving function that cuts assist to steering if it doesn't get engaged after awhile (eg; driving on straight stretch of highway). Im wondering if his has anything to do with it.

Anyone heard of this, or have a similar issue?

 

im having the same situation with my 2012 a4.. i was paying attention to it for a couple days and i was just thinking that the car had to warm up.. yet i can still feel the grinding.. let me no if u find out... is yours quattro by chance?

 

I think with the exception of A3 base, all other Audi models are Quattro. You guys should take this in as you both have warranty.

 

the issue I had with my 2010 is in parking lot situations. ie., quick spins on the steering wheel while at almost full stop, it would feel as if the power steering pump lost pressure and is having trouble keeping up. The solution to this is to change the power steering hoses (TSB) but it still comes back occasionally.

 

I've looked into this already, and have the same thing happening with my 2013 S4. It's completely normal. You can feel it through the break pedal just before you hit 20km/h. It only happens just after you start it and drive away.

 

yeah exactly.. i feel it on the gas pedal only when im pulling out of the driveway then it goes away

 

Sorry I meant to say gas pedal. There is a thread on Audizine that had everyone experiencing the same thing.

 

There are other Audi models that are non-Quattro. The CVT A4 is not a quattro for example, there is Also FWD TT's.

 

as you drive away on startup? I think thats the ABS pump priming..

 

This noise is apparently normal with the latest generation, and I've heard similar complaints with the previous gen as well. It has to do with the Secondary Air Pump.
