Help: 2009 A4 2.0T Burning 1L/1160km
I recently purchased a 2009 A4 2.0T Premium /w Tech Package 56,000km.
I did the 56,000km Maintenance when I got the car so I had an oil change. I drive about 50/50 highway and city. I got the indicator telling me LOW OIL after 1160km from when I did the service. I went the dealer and they said they will do an oil test.
Also, I was stopped by a police officer and I had a friend drive behind me. Whenever I push the car, i blow off a big puff of smoke. I was told by the dealership it was Dirty oil I should try a different brand. I am using Shell 91 which im told is the best Gas you can buy in Canada. Dealship told me to put PetroCanada 94. could this be oil being burned?
I don't have a dip stick I only have the Radio measuring method. I used a ruler to measure the level and km.
after 155km I am at 85% oil level
after 300km I am at 75% oil level
At that rate I will hit 0oil about 1000km... I searched all over and it seems that they will either change the pistons or new engine. I could probably be sure to be at 0% before 1000km by leaving the car Idle and drive it really hard but do i need to? Doesn't the manual state 0.5 / 1000km
What are the Pros and Cons of each? or could I have a bigger problem?

My 2010 burns through a litre of oil pretty quickly too. Even when the indicator comes on there is another 5 litres of oil left, so you just need to top up as soon as you can, not immediately.
Also, the capacity at full is 4.9l, so when the add oil comes on you are down to about 3.9l, not 5l.
If the rings or pistons are bad, you would want to have Audi address this while still under warranty. I've read about a number of cases where they have rebuilt the engine to correct this.
I have a 2011 Avant with about 6500km and I am down perhaps .25l or less.
I just finished my Oil Consumption test. At 870km i had zero oil on the MMI. the Yellow Low Oil went off at 940km and I went to the dealer directly. The mechanic said well you failed the test 100% but I need to submit your results to Audi Canada what needs to be done.
I hope they give me a new engine not change pistons.

It may not be uncommon, but it's not "normal". The manual states "up to .5l/1000km" depending on driving conditions. If you don't drive very aggressively, then it's reasonable to be burning less than this.

you're well below it. Let us know how it goes because my 2009 chugs oil as well.
