Towing a boat /w an A4?
Hey There,
I hope there is an expert out there that can help me. I've been doing a lot of research on the towing capacity of an A4. It looks like the European models can tow a full camper, but I cannot find any mention of towing capacity in North America.
I have a 2007 A4 2.0l Quattro /w a manual transmission.
So I'm not trying to tow a camper, but I want to see if its feasible to tow a decent size boat.
I'm thinking of a 16' Lund fishing boat. - Yes I know it'll look real awkward that an A4 is towing a fishing boat, but I want to know, other than aesthetics, what are the consequences of it?
I'm figuring the tow weight will be ~1500lbs. Details are below - pls let me know if I'm missing something...
Boat 900lbs
Trailer 250lbs
Motor 250lbs
Gas 125lbs
Battery 100lbs
Misc Gear 50lbs
Anyways, please let me know if I'm completely crazy thinking about doing this.
In a previous post, someone had posted that its safe up to 600kg... Can anyone confirm?

Can be done but ...
Trailer Hitches, Heavy Duty Hitch, & Towing Accessories Made in America by CURT Manufacturing.
B7's can have a Class 1 hitch attached that is speced for 2000lbs. I have a one fitted but only use it for the hitch rack for my 2 mountain bikes.
Personally I wouldn't use an A4 as a towing vehicle - buy an older truck or SUV as a tow vehicle for $5K or something, and keep the A4 as an entry luxury sports sedan and enjoy the driving it was designed for

No way would I tow anything with an A4 despite the hitch being rated for 2000 lbs. I would bet my last dollar that the suspension in the A4 cannot handle that kind of weight and the handling would go to hell. Not to mention the massive strain you'll be putting on your tranny and brakes. Spending $5K on an old tow vehicle will be WAY cheaper than fixing whatever damage you inflict on your A4.
Just my 2 cents.

^ I concur with the above, don't try it, trust me I thought about it too as I am an avid fisherman and wanted to tow a boat but after second thought, common sense kicked in and wishful thinking went out the window....

Re: Towing a boat /w an A4?
Im towing a 2000lbs boat with my b7 and its awesome!! i have been doing this for about three years and i never had a problem at all....its a great car to tow with.i dont feel the boat while im towing.when i put the boat in the water i have no problems pulling it back out even on a steep ramp.trust me i really didnt want to tow anything with it but i dont regret it now.Curt sells a hitch for audi b7.towing capacity is 2000lbs...i know im close to the maximum towing capacity but i asked on of my engineering friend and he said that since there are 4 bolts they can take way more than 2000lbs....hope this answers all your doubts!

I wouldn't do it. As mentioned above... I would buy a cheap truck for boat hauling duties. Plus... depending on how steep the launch is... it might be difficult to pull it out of the water.
