Default WORST Timing Ever For This To Happen! Help Needed Pls!

Been ages guys! So I decided to sell my 2002 A4 1.8T as I bought a 06 Avant 2.0T (sitting and waiting to be driven but had to sell the 02 1st!)

Well the guy came last week and checked it out. He loved it after the test drive and wanted to get an Inspection at the Stealership. He did so and minus a few minor things it checked out perfectly. I went after work and picked up the car and drove it home, parking and leaving it in the driveway until today when he came to hand me the certified cheque and drive it away. Well sure enough, like something right out of Christine, it would not start!! It has never done this before EVER!

I was stumped so I grabbed my VAG and got this:

17072 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit
P0688 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

ARGH! What are the chances of this happening right when he is about to drive it home but it NEVER occurred before!? So I told him I would fix it even though it is his car now but it is just the right thing to do. I assume it is the ECU power relay that would need replacing? I checked all the fuses and they are 100% intact and not blown.

Do you think the stealership did something? Everything was fine until they inspected it! Could a coil pack wire have come loose and pulled this code?

Any help on this horribly timed incident would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Guys,

So I decided to open the ECU and check all the relays. I had replaced one a year ago in there. I pulled them all and cleaned the contact pins (some were a little tarnished) and blammo! Car started right up. EPC light was on so shut it off and cleared the code, restarted and the code never came back (old remaining P0688 code from earlier today)

My vote is for the dealership having sabotaged your car: I am alleging (legal wording) to have experienced this with OWASCO in Whitby, Ontario and have the proof too!
